This shit brass from Bobcat is so stretched out I have to trim it twice, trim off .010" or so, then take the shell out of the trimmer, then chamfer the shell, and trim the rest of the way, (best way I found when you have to trim up to .020" off a case.). maybe the LC match stuff isn't that way but this is taking way too much of my time, but yet I'll make it awesome nonetheless. Nearly all of the large bulk 7.62NATO brass being sold was fired in Machine guns. On occasion, you will see an ad for some LC L/R brass that was fired in bolt guns, but it is rare.

Machine Gun brass is what it is. You might get lucky and get several loadings out of it, but don't expect much more than that.

small base dies will help... but you can work it with a regular FL die. I just got another batch of stuff that was supposed to be LC... but it's mostly WCC (Winchester) and there's some oddball stuff in the mix as well.

It looks almost as if Winchester is totally out of the brass making business, at least for commercial stuff... it's not been showing up anywhere I've seen for more than a year now.

I've had great success with milsurp 7.62 brass. Lube, then run them through the Dillon 650 fitted with a Forster 308 National Match FLS die and a primer pocket swager, then trim to 2.010" or so on the Giraud, then a trip through the annealer.

Shoots as well and lasts as long as any other brass I've used.

I have noticed that too, haven't seen any much Winchester brass at the gun stores unless it's an oddball caliber. Fortunately, I was able to get 1500 pieces of new .223 brass a few months ago.

Sounds like your problem isn't necessarily mil brass per se, its who you bought it from. I have had no problem when purchasing LC LR brass. Good stuff actually if its been fired through a bolt gun.

Redding Small Base full length sizing die in station #1.
Swages primer pockets in station #2
Dillon RT-1200 in station #3 to size the rest of the way and trim.
Throw it in a Thumler Model B with SS pins to clean.
Throw the brass through the Giraud Cartridge Case Annealer when completed.

I just wanna know why these shells are so stretched out, is that a machine gun thing or what? I mean some were 2.024 or longer, I swear I saw one that was almost 2.030". Im trimming them to 2.012", 65 more to go.

Sounds like your problem isn't necessarily mil brass per se, its who you bought it from. I have had no problem when purchasing LC LR brass. Good stuff actually if its been fired through a bolt gun.

If the brass is chambering well enough, you don't need a small base die. It's just that with some machine gun chambers, they'll stretch the brass enough that it can be hard to size it down enough to make it easily chamber in a tight chamber... I have had trouble getting it to chamber in factory Savage rifles... I just use FL dies (not small base) and double ram the brass into the die, and it seems to help. If the chamber is bigger around at the base of the case in the machine gun (not unusual) then the small base dies can help with some cases.

It does stretch due to the long chambers, with the extra headspace that you'll find on machine guns. The brass is tough to work down, but the plus side of that is it's pretty durable....

I've seen the same. I've seen 2.040".

Recommend you measure your chamber to determine how much you *need* to trim. Most 308s will accommodate cases WAY longer than 2.005.

I use LC brass with Redding dies (Type "S") and it's not a problem sizing the cases. I just used the Sinclair chamber gage and found out that the internal dimension of my rifle is 2.040 for case tip to base so trimming isn't as much of a headache anymore. If you don't have one take a look at the Sinclair chamber gage, it's $6.00 and will tell you how much room you have to work with. The problem I'm experiencing though are quite a few primers have been seating to deep so my firing pin has not been making full contact thus no ignition. All I do is swage the pockets so I'm scratching my head here. Factory ammo and SW ammo work without a hiccup.

These rounds are for a guy at work that cant find 308 ammo, he said he had a Model 7 Winchester, I said you mean Remington, not sure if he knows what he has. If this were for me Id spend 78 bucks for some Lapua, oh, I've got some already, shwoooo!
