Guys, in case you haven't been by lately I have loaded some pictures of the improvements to our Range H where we run the Precision Rifle Match. The biggest change is we now have a great shoot house with an upper level on top. Also we now have a section with a SUV, large tires and concrete pipe as props. We also have new berms and more steel.

Looks good! What is the max distance at your range?

725yds. It was tricky to get that much distance as the range is situated in the midst of a fairly populated area. We've got a seperate 500yd range also.

You need to come shoot with us Ed! Hope you're doing well.

No no no, what are you doing david . This isn't a special olympics match!
Oh great! Why don't you just invite a bunch of parapeligic hippie girl scouts with tourettes syndrome to come shoot.

I want to see a rematch of you and Ed racing the long range. He might get you this time as the distance will be 725yds vs 1000yds as at Hardrock:)

Haaa haaaaaaaaa....... fat chance. Tell you what , I will make it fair this time and race him wearing ice skates !

David...I accept the challenge...lets see I am about 25 lbs lighter than the 1st race and Gump is about 50 lbs heavier....but he has quit smoking...lol. Either the July/August Match...hopefully I wii be clear of my D-vorce by then!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Gump?

Dave or Jim. Is the same match location as The Hard Rock? Are they one in the same? Thinking about coming down and letting you boys beat the heck out of me on 2/8. Is this 308 only or open?

Hardrock is in auburn. This is in b'ham (about 1.5hrs closer for you). You can shoot whatever you want. Max range is 720 but the wind can be tricky at times.

Thanks. I should have read more. For some reason I had decided they were one in the same. Bham not a bad drive for me. Website says 2nd Saturday. Correct?

Are there regular days and time that poor folks can come out and see/practice on this range?

Might like to try and find the time to make the trip over from GA!

G100,

Unless the rules have changed to shoot on the 720 yard range (range h) you'd have to get in touch with a RO and he'd have to be there while you shoot. I think you have to go to a one of the practice days on the list in the Precision Rifle Match page of Brocks Gap website. They will verify your dope is good all the way out, The range and in a populated area and we have to make sure no rounds get out. I'm a member but I still have to shoot with a RO at range H. You can also shoot the 500y range with just a member and no RO. You'd be a quest of the member and he has to make sure you stay on the berms. Brock Gap is a very nice range and also very safe. Hope you can come over and check it out some time.

Just make sure to keep an eye on the calender which will include any changes. The match which was scheduled for Feb 8th has been pushed back 1 week to Feb 15th. Cuckler and I got the Jeep setup to be able to shoot off the roof and laying towards the back and shooting out of the back of it as well as a few other area's which could be a whole stage in itself. Lots of options now compared to what we had 3 months ago for example. See you guys on the range!

Two hours away from me...how have i not known about this place! If i can find some damn bullets i'll be coming up for the match on the 15th.

pm replied to match is on the 15th for february only, it is usually the second saturday but we needed to move the date for this month only, ?'s just send me a pm, lrl

A few pics from today with all the snow out. I didn't make it to H range to shoot as planned. I just pulled in the gate and had a snowball fight with my daughter to get away from the crazy drivers. :) .

Nice group Irok. Man i can't wait till the 15th. Adrenaline gets going just thinking about it.

wow thats one hell of a group off hand! those guys are in trouble at the next match if you get a solid rest. have you been shooting the match in the past?

Not the smaller matches. I worked on that dang accu-shot position for a while. It involves a numb arm and skint knuckle is all I know which still hurts like hell. Lol I doubt I could replicate it again to be honest and I was very surprised to see the last shot right next to the others. I do shoot down there probably twice a week. Somewhere near100-300rnds a week so I get my practice in. I'll come in dead last at the match though. Lol.

I'm willing to bet i place last on the 15th :p. Never shot a match before and never do position shooting. Hell i've never even passed 600yds. Which i've got to do in the next two weeks i go get some accurate dope lol. I don't or haven't shot regularly due to college. Now that i'm out i have to start studying for the MCAT and am close to having a job, but i think i'll have more time to shoot. I'm not worried though more excited to finally do this. Really going to depend on the wind for me, if it's windy i'm expecting way under 50%. I'm hoping for 50% to begin with lol

It's all in good safe fun. Just make sure you hit the berms if you miss and your good. You can't miss fast enough to win..

I don't expect to pass over a berm. Don't want to get DQ'd but like i was told in USPSA "there are those that have been DQ'd and those that will be DQ'd." found that out pretty quickly.

Will we have spotters to call hits/impact? Also how's the wind usually there?

We will call hits. Wind is hit or miss, just depends on the weather. Yo have to make your own wind calls which for me are really only needed past 450.. You will quickly find out about the wind on the first shot to 725.

Idk when I'll make it probably after I take my MCAT right now I can't have any fun. Wake up study, go to work, get home at 12am go to sleep: rinse and repeat.

We would love to have you guys come down. Please check the Brocks Gap training center website for the match dates. Also feel free to PM me if it is needed and if you're from out of town you are more than welcome to crash at my place for the evening if needed. I'm located 4 minutes from the gate. You would just need to jump over the toys in the floor :)

We probably have neighbors who think we are crazy anyways. Here is my wife miling a "target" down the road from our front door. Lol.

My little one would love the idea of the toys on the floor!

Kids are welcome at the house but my wife will start shooting matches with me here soon so no babysitters unfortunately unless you want my 12 year old daughter to watch them which may not be a great idea. I don't trust her with a bowl of Mac and cheese.

I did not see any pictures of the muddy pine straw hill they make you run up! Where I'd the car you have to shoot through from deep in the woods?

Ha, that hill had a lot of folks cussing at the top :) it's over on the backside of our 520 yard range which we will be using as well for our larger match in September. We will essentially be using the whole range for the steel city precision match which will be pure awesomeness! Don't discount our smaller "monthly" matches however and expect those to improve with a fun and upbeat pace as well! Plus it's a quick days trip for a good many people and of course it's a good bit cheaper to shoot. We are continually working in making the range better and guys like John Cuckler, Richard Crouse, David Tapp, Jim Saunders and a few others are up there busting ass to make it happen. I need to win the lottery (a big one) so I can purchase a range heli for some sure enough fun shooting! :)

Actually, I have friends in Birmingham and we live in Opelika so it's driving distance. But, it's pretty cool that you have your wife shooting with you. My wife is pro-gun in theory but not in practice.
