I keep hearing there are closeout deals on AE MkIIIs out there, but I haven't seen any. I looked at both MHS and Eurooptic. It seemed they were full retail price. Is there somewhere else to look? I'm interested in a 6.5CM or a .260 and thought I remembered reading you could find them for cheap. What is "cheap" and who's having sales? Thanks.

I see three of them at the sale price at MHS.
One of them may have been mine before I changed my order to an AT.
Give them a call and they will swap out the .308 barrel for a 6.5CM or .260, the additional cost is $532.
The price on MHS is the sale price. It's like buying a used AIAE brand new. $3200 for a folder

Just the website. And I see that MHS is only offering .308 so if a .260 or 6.5Cm is $500 more, that's about what I was seeing over on EO.
For some reason, I though the AEs were on sale for just under $3K. Maybe that was the New Years Sale.

OP, for what the AT offers over the AE it would take much more than the $1000 price difference to get me to choose the AE over the AT. For another $1000 (street price of folder vs folder) you get:
- double stack mags that load easier, feed smoother and hang from the rifle less.
- quick change barrel system.
- flat bottom action that's bonded to the chassis with 6 lugs and magnum bolt release.
- AX style competition trigger.
- new chassis with flush cups instead of the noisey hooks, and a keys lot rail on the bottom.
That's worth a grand and then some.

Very true!! I was hoping to see some cheap used AW's but it appears guys are just holding onto them instead of selling to buy the AT
About 4-6 weeks ago, MHS probably had 20+ different options vs just 3 left. Looks like everyone picked off the 260, 20" barrels and fixed stock versions. You may have started looking for a new-old stock AE just a little late.
I too am a bit surprised at the lack of AW deals. Although I paid a bit more for my first AW than what the AT will cost, I'm sure has hell not going to break my neck to sell it for a loss when it is still a phenomenal platform. I imagine many other AW owners feel the same way.
I might be the odd man out but the only feature that I care about is the double stack mags and even that isn't a big deal for me since I don't shoot any matches. I want another AE before all the NOS is gone but can't decide what rifle to sell.
You are not, although I agree that the extra 1k is worth the features on the AT. I picked up an AE because I wanted the AE. I have a legacy AICS that I'm still back and forth on selling because I like the chassis and would like to put a big horn in it.

My mind sure isn't what it use to be, but I could swear that I read somewhere on another thread, that Lowlight indicated the double stack magazines were unreliable. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
The double stack magazines work 100% in the AX and AW... it's when you try to put them in a Remington they tend to fail.

You'll never shoot out a barrel and need to replace it? You don't hunt where the noisy sling hooks are a problem? You don't see the benefit to a trigger with an adjustable shoe?
In custom actions. I've NEVER seen a magazine, feeding, or reliability issue out of double stack mags in AW's or AX's.
I will buy the tools to change the barrel when I need a new barrel. The hooks are noisy but I don't usually use my AI when hunting, most shots are 300 and under so I use my Noveske in 6.8 that weighs about 8 1/2 pounds. I haven't tried the adjustable trigger shoe but I don't have any complaints with the way my AE fits/feels. I forgot to mention that I prefer the looks of the AE over the AT as well.
Buy the Thumbhole stock sides for $60 like I did and they'll look virtually identical.
According to the site a folder at is 4622 and not sure if that includes a break, my new ae was 3176 with all that plus shipping. To me the new ax folder is the shit but way more cash.
My AT folder was $4083 shipped from euro optic and I'm pretty sure mile high is the same price with their hide discount. $1k difference. Before the AT came out the AE was a sweet deal, now that they're out it's a no brainer to get the AT for the cost difference vs features.
