Alright so ive decided to try a new ior scope. Ive narrowed it down to 2 scopes. Its an odd list considering 1 is an ffp scope and the other is sfp. I started out looking for strictly an ffp optic. Ive used and understand both. This is just a feeler for what others would prefer. I know picking a scope is very much personal but thought id ask anyways.

My setup is a savage 110fcp in 338 lapua mag in an xlr chassis. Main use will be shooting steel and paper to 2000yds but occasionally I break it out for some long work on prairie dogs.

My two choices are:

6-25x56 ffp with extreme x1 mil reticle

Or

New 9-36x44 spyder (this uses the hd glass from schott Germany) 2nd focal plane moa extreme x1

The 44mm objective on the 9-36 makes me leary even tho they claim brightness and clarity like a 60mm spotting scope im not sure how that works. It also employs the mid tube focus which ive never used and would like an opinion on.

Any first hand experience or straight opinions just for looking. Oh and ive heard the ior stories so keep the bashing to a minimum please. I am however open to other suggestions.

All IOR scopes use Schott glass.
Although a .338 LM could be considered overkill for a prairie dog, on targets that small, you may want to consider a SFP scope.
I'm thinking a FFP reticle will obscure a target that small at 1000 yards.

If you are thinking real hard about the FFP, you might want to consider the RECON. It is a 4-28 and has been used extensively on .338's where the targets shoot back.

The recon is a dream scope to me. I realize they all use schott glass but it says on their site the recon 9-36 spyder and a couple others use hd glass.

Well I dont prairie dog hunt often with it. I have other stuff for that. Its just kinda fun to try it on some far out dogs. Plus we put paper out in the towns alot just to shoot as far as possible. Kinda why im having a tough time deciding. Does anybody know the line thickness of the x1 ffp reticle? Also the power at which the spyders reticle is calibrated? IOR leaves this info out on their site.

Well talked to ior rep today. If anybody was curious the spyder 9-36 reticle is calibrated this way:

2moa spaces at 9x
1moa at 18x
.5moa at 36x

I ordered 6-24x56 ffp with x1 mil reticle.

Just an update. I got the 6-24x56 ffp today. Got it mounted and ready to go to the range.

I will say of the scopes ive tried this is by far the best glass and set of features ive seen. Absolutely love this scope. Its tough to say til I get a good season of use but I think im hooked on ior already.

Thank you as well bud!

Just to be clear I bought my scope from 6.5 shaggy who posted above. If anybody is in the market for a new optic or rifle build do yourself a favor and contact him. There isnt a better guy to deal with. Great communication. Very knowledgeable and wont push his ideas on you just offers your options for what you want. Truly top notch! Thanks again brother!
