You rotten bastards! You made this rifle sound so good I just had to have one! Just picked it up over the weekend and am still waiting on the optic........... I'm so excited to shoot this I have the shakes
Do you know what velocities you are getting with your hand loads? I've got another 308 I'm looking for a new recipe for......
The 41.3 grains of 4064 with the 175gr bullet is 2470 fps. I have another load I use but I would work up to it first because it is very compressed. 45.6 grains of IMR 4064. It's exactly 2740-2750 fps. 175 gr bullet is screaming out of the barrel. It's the Max load that hogdon calls for, but no other manual has a load that hot.

I just purchased a new SSG 3000 and picked it up last night. I also ordered a new Vortex PST 6-24x50 FFP Riflescope with the new EBR2 reticle. My question to others who have this rifle is:
Will medium height precision matched rings work with the scope above with a 50mm objective? I know the low would be to low and dont want to go with the high rings unless I have to.... Any input would be most appreciated. I will post here once I get the scope mounted abd take it to the range.

Medium will work. High rings will give you a couple moa more of adjustment though. I switched from medium to high and had to adjust down another 1.5 moa. So that's another 15.5 inches I have of upward adjustment at 1000 yards. Just a thought. I have the vortex viper hs lr 6-24x50 with the xlr reticle.

I bought my Sig SSG 3000 in Oct. 2013 because my friend had just bought one. This gun is unreal! We are shooting 5 shot groups @ 500yds, and are disappointed if we don't shoot 1/2 MOA or better. I have worked up A load that works great in our guns.

I will be able to pick up mine in several days. I want to get a Tipton carbon fiber cleaning rod: is 36" long enough- or do I need a 40"?
Also, I want to get a bore guide (AKA chamber guide) to improve the cleaning process- I was looking at Pro-Shot Stopper. Any advice?

Did pick mine up yesterday, but appears to have major defect: cannot chamber a round (Hornady product # 8097)- or chamber an empty cartridge. Bolt handle rotates to point where it's is just about horizontal, and stops dead. Rifle and bolt serial numbers match. If it's really defective, and not me doing something wrong, it's hard to believe- and would constitute a major failure of quality control. Not sure I like the idea of having it "repaired"- would prefer to have it replaced with another new one- I think I'm still committed to owning one of these. Store where I bought it could not confirm defect because they do not chamber any ammo anywhere on their property. I want to stress that I know I could be doing something wrong (or bad ammo), but obviously can't imagine what it would be- have owned bolt action rifles including Remington 700 PSS in .223 Rem and 308 Win. I will be talking to Sig tomorrow- I will post follow-up info on this to forum.........
I assume you have tried different ammo? Or at least a different round from the box? Check for dents in the shoulder. Also worst case scenario, click on the link two posts above and see how to remove the barrel and maybe try to reset the barrel, redo headspace, and check to make sure nothing was damaged in shipping to the store, etc...

Heres a quick update for anyone interested in the 18" SSG 3000. I had my local dealer call their Sig rep today to inquire about the 18" version of the SSG. The rep told him that no 18" guns have left the factory as of yet. They are being produced now. If I wanted to order one, I could probably get it in June. Also, there is going to be a FDE colored one at some point but that would probably take longer to get. I imagine we'll start seeing these hit the shelves and or be available online this summer without having to order one. I plan on waiting as I'd like to see what the FDE one looks like.

It was the ammo! I don't get it. Thought there was more uniformity in gun standards. Guys in a local store said some match/target chambers are tighter. The chamber would not close with an unfired empty case in it- so the issue was the case dimensions. Hornady 168gr HPBT Match cartridges- just purchased (product # 8097- not reloads). American Eagle 150 gr HPBT cycle no problem at all. Ordered some Federal Premium Gold Medal Match 168gr- think there will be no problem with them.
Anybody seen this?
BTW- the SFWA SS 20 X 42 MRAD scope is not happening- target image not very sharp at all at 100 yards. I like the MRAD system and turrets- and the reticle is crystal clear. The image is just not sharp- will be needing to replace it.
I have returned the SWFA SS 20X42 to SWFA for credit. For now, think I will try Vortex PST 6X24X50mm, MRAD, EBR-1 SFP ($749). I like open turrets, and with SFP reticle, reticle is set up for accuracy at 24X (accurate at 18X on HS 6X24X50mm SFP). Did notice that Viper HS-LR FFP with XLR reticle has "open centers" on reticle dots (Vortex should illustrate this better on their site)- seems like it would do well for target. I have not had a chance to look thru a Vortex 6X24X50 FFP to see how the reticle looks/acts at different powers- how does it look at max? I'm also thinking about bench-rest scopes because of the magnification- BR scopes are going as high as 60X I think. Really like NightForce 15X55X52mm Competition, but am not willing to commit $2000+ at this point. If I wind up wanting to upgrade from Viper PST at some point after I've got more shooting time in with the SSG3000, seems like it would hold its value and be easy to sell.
Should not happen. That's what the SAAMI specs are for. Gun is being bored no smaller than minimum chamber, ammo is being made no bigger than case dimension and everything is fine for Joe Consumer.
I would suspect the ammo being out of specs since the SSG 3000 is proof tested in Germany AFAIK (look for proof marks on receiver and barrel). Part of the proofing process is headspace testing with go/no-go.
Yeah. I need to send the ammo back to Hornady to see what they say. Been really busy...... will post results.
Returned the SFWA SS 20 X 42 MRAD to SWFA- up graded to Vortex PST 6 X 24 X 50 EBR-1 MRAD. I do prefer it..... Still think I will eventually get bench rest type scope like NightForce 12 X 42 X 56 NXS. I seem to prefer high magnification.
Also thinking of seeing if I can get wooden stock - like they have on Saur STR-200 (Scandinavian Target Rifle). I believe it's a direct fit. I just prefer the looks. Maybe someone in Scandinavian countries has upgraded to another stock and would sell me their original stock...........
The STR stock is not very good for a gun with optics on it, the stock is built to be used with dioptre/diopter sights so the (dont know what its called in english) place where you place your shoulder and head has to be raised a little to much in my opinion..
GRS makes great laminate Stocks for the ssg/str bit they are pricy..
So far, the 3000 eats everything fed it.
Every fired case will drop into a Dillon Case Guage and headspace perfectly.
Cases fired from other chambers will not allow the bolt to close.
Still developing loads - during OCW, some do < 3/4" at 200, better than FGMM 168.

Too bad. I see what you are saying: need to raise head position for scope. I was wondering about the STR cheek-piece- based on what you are saying, it might not rise enough.
I saw the GRS- will check them out some more. I personally do not like the coloring and appearance of them, but they probably have some with plain finish. I still might do more research on the STR stock to be sure it's not appropriate. Thanks for your input- any more suggestions welcome...........

Nice. What is this? A full out STR 6.5 X 55? Interesting looking muzzle. I shoot lefty- does the cheek piece flip for when your head's to the right of stock?
Yes the rifle is set up with the 22lr conversion. I have a 308 for it but have never shot it because the 22lr shoots so well (as good or better than any other rimfire I have ever owned, which includes many Anschutz 19XX rifles). I have had several scopes on it with several mounting systems for varying heights and really never had an issue. You could make a little wooden block with a hole in it as a spacer if you wanted to raise the cheek piece a little. I don't think the cheek piece would work very well from the left side and the grip would be a little funky similar to many target stocks out there.
Just a heads up, there are some 18" SSG's up on gun broker right now. I just bought one and thought I'd spread the word as I don't think anyone else has gotten them in stock yet?
I have an 18" SSG 3000 and so far like it a lot. I have only shoot 168gr FGMM and PPU 168gr match in it so far. I have also shot it suppressed with a Hunter Town Arms Kestrel 308 ( my 300blk can ).
It is showing a lot of potential with the factory ammo so far. I have some hand loads ready to test next time out with it.
The stock is very nice for a plastic stock. I am 6' 5" tall and it fits me very nice for prone or on a bench. The adjustable cheek is very solid which is funny because to me it feels cheap.
I did have some trouble getting the FGMM to chamber, hard to close the bolt. No problems with the PPU stuff.
The trigger is very nice.
I put a Steiner 4-16x scope on it with a Spuhr mount.

I forgot to mention that I called Sig about getting a spacer for the butt and they sent me one at no charge. I had to get a couple of longer screws which the local hardware had.

I've got the 24" 3000, absolutely love the rifle. I actually picked it up back in October of 2013.
I'm running 168g Hornady BTHP. Send rounds out to 1000 regularly and don't have much trouble connecting. Anything under 600 yards is boring.
Here's a groundhog I thumped this summer at 535 yards.
Our LGS has some in stock right now, and I believe a local smith has the barrel adapters so he can spin up any caliber you'd like, that will fit the bolt face of course.
I'm looking forward to the GRS chassis coming out at end of month.
