sure the shemagh (keffiyeh) has a few useful purposes (I wore one in Iraq in 05-06 and in Afghanistan 07 when the air was bad) but the trend of people wearing it in the US makes me sick. I think there are many other things we as Americans can think of to drape around our necks without adopting something from 3rd world countries where people still shit on the side of the road..

i keep 1 in my back if i have to shoot into the sun, the cover over the head removed all the reflected glare from the light on your face...

also, on a semi auto, i drape it over the ejection ports.. drops all the brass under the gun then...

I refuse to wear mine now that I'm a FOBit, but I'll confess to using one OTW. Any piece of gear that could keep me cool when I was hot, warm when I was cold, and serve as an emergency jack-rag when my cruise sock got too crusty was a winner in my book.

I found they worked a lot better than the cut up skivvie shirts we used to use, although the skivvie shirt was softer as a jack-rag.
