What is the windage call at 1200 yards on a 3" projectile at 6600FPS?!

I was just reading an article about the Navy ramping up to deploy an electromag rail gun system that launches projectiles at 6-7x the speed of sound. HOLY S#!+ that's fast. I'm just guessing on the projectile but it would definitely simplify firing solutions. Basically if you can see it just hold center, huh?

Wonder what the specs on that projectile are. Would like to see the numbers and ft/lbs delivered at distance. Sounds devastating. Like a laser, really.

The Navy actually do have a laser system that they are deploying now that is supposed to work on drones and small craft. Big issue here is that it's too expensive to shoot small stuff with anti-## missiles because the missiles cost millions. Once you build a laser it shoots basically for free, Navy ships have lots of electricity.

I think the magrail is still developmental and not ready for prime time.

Considering that nothing since WWII has been seriously armored they'll have to develop some kind of destructive round. Poking holes through warships isn't particularly good for them but it's very survivable unless you hit something that has a bad reaction. It will have to be some kind of light penetrator incendiary frag/spald or HE kind of system for anti ship use.

I've also read that the Navy is working on an electromag cat system for carriers to replace the steam catapults. They have big enough systems platforms to support that type of stuff.

Wonder what they range would be. Aim that thing up and it's going to go a really long way.

Not quite.. The sheer amount of kinetic energy of a tungsten projectile traveling at hypersonic speeds is enough to destroy anything.. the impact alone EXPLODES the target, without the aid of seperate HE.. Youtube the test videos of it going through several different targets.. Link below.
