IN CASE YOU WERE WONDERING WHAT THE TARGETS LOOK LIKE

I'm calling BS on this. My targets have never come pre-shot with that kind of score. And they sure as hell have never left looking that good either. :) Ready for some frozen fun.

Can I order 8 total Centerfire STS targets i.e. 4 for myself, 4 for the wife with one check? Thanks, look forward to trying this out.

BGE, sure, no problem.

Jake, sure are, you guys are listed on the subscribers list on the homepage ;)

Doogie- you got me there, hah!

I have been trying to put together the funds to build another Smiley Smacker. I seriously doubt that it will happen again this time around. The Savage TR seems to be doing a fairly good job, but I am still experimenting with several different rounds to see just what works the best. Time consuming process, but one that I feel will be well worth it. I hate not being able to score well in the Rimfire competitions.

Hopefully, with a good bit of luck, and Uncle Sam not kickin our butts too bad this time around, the Smiley Smacker should see the light of day for the Spring outing.

Hope I'm ok to post pics of my rimfire rig. Anyhow here she is.. It'll be my 1st time shooting this one in this match. Ready to see how it'll preform!

We got our targets in the mail today!! Yeeehhhaaawww!!! Hopefully we will be able to get the gang together, and get out and shoot some Smileys!! I am soooo ready to get r done. I have invited some additional friends, Ray and Lela, to come and check everything out. I have been working with their son Chris on his basics, so I am anxious to see how he will do on these itty bitty little smiling faces!! LOL

DK

Shot my targets today. Does not look good score wise, I'll count up the points shortly and get them in the mail tomorrow.

I set a personal record on the CF, but probably not good enough for the win. I shot a couple of good RF targets. I would say it was good enough for a win, but after losing with a 283, I am not so sure. I think I will hit a personal best on both CF and RF aggs... but competition has been really stiff lately.

BTW... being in Texas, I am totally spoiled on the snowflake. Normally it is the best shooting weather of the year and the flakes are a bit larger than smilies. This year, we caught a bit of the Polar Vortex and I decided against shooting a couple of weekends because of freezing temps. I feel for you guys up in the upper midwest and northeast that have to shoot in the snow. Differing conditions can make postal matches a little unfair.

I just shot my targets in a balmy 9 degrees. It seems so easy until you have to pull the trigger. That is the most fun I have ever had shooting paper, thanks Jason. One question, are we supposed to score our targets?

I hope it's ok to share this in this thread. I just wanted to thank Jason for putting on the match and all the sponsors. I've won a lot of neat toys, Sierra bullets, a TAB sling, an Ivy cleaning rod, and in the last match a side bolt release from GAP.

I bullseyed the 25 point target for RF. Looking back, I have seen that done only one other time for rimfire (scored for the 5 point bonus) on a winning target, back in the Fall of 2007.

Amazingly, there are several wipeouts in that time frame. After closer examination, I realized that it is harder to bullseye the 25 point target than it is to get a wipeout during the snowflake match... the white space is smaller than the 40/50 snow flake. Pretty cool. I think I have bullseyed the 25 point before, but overall, it was not my top target.

I definitely set my personal best in RF this time around. Pretty much everybody there shot very well. Everyone shot my Savage TR .22lr, and Wolf Match!! In the RF round, my wife absolutely kicked my rear on the 3-shot group!! Her group has to be somewhere in the .18 to .20 range. Holy moly... I thought I had done good, until she get up there. I really like the 50 yards with the RF. Lots of fun, and you can easily see the Snowflakes!!

Shooting in the snow to me is no big deal to us. What is the main pain, is having to shoot during hunting season. Trying to find time, and a place that isn't full of hunters, THAT is the hardest part. I love to shoot in the snow, as it helps to keep the barrel temps nice. Our group always tends to shoot better in the lower temps it seems.

There won't be any records shattered by us this time around for sure. However, we all shot well, and I just did a quick round about scoring calculation on all the targets. Everyone surprised me, and competition was heated between us. But, it was an awesome outing to say the least. Tons of fun, good scoring, awesome tailgate food and drinks, but above all else, wonderful lasting memories!!

My efforts to get another Smiley Smacker are getting closer to reality!! I should be taking possession of a new Savage VT in .243 shortly. It seems like a great rifle, especially for the funds!! I am keeping my fingers crossed!!

Best of luck to everyone... keep them barrels warm!!

DK

My cheap scope crapped out just as I started shooting, had it all dialed in the day before shooting real good, next morning all over the place. I would have done better with a shot gun.

Still tinkering with my CZ... Shot a decent rimfire target, but I certainly need to tweek the gun a bit more. Also shooting in gusting winds didn't help anything. But I had a blast shooting as always!

Smack the SMILEY (SNOWFLAKE) - WINTER 2013 - ENTRY OPEN!

Hopefully Jason doesn't look at my RF and CF at the same time. My RF was going great, so great in fact I decided to take the confidence shot for the first time. After making sure I had hit the bottom center target, I laid back down and thought, maybe I should shoot the 3 shot group just to make sure I know where I am at. Well I didn't and ended up shooting high and killing off the 40 points from that section. And my 3 shot group was all at the top of the diamond.

Then I changed to the CF group. I was a mil high off my zero and didn't realize until after the first shot. Then continued to dance around the rest of the targets minus the top left. Decided what the hell and ended up having touching holes for a measly extra 5 points. Working on a new CF system that will hopefully be a bit better.

Nothing like shooting a 17HMR in 35° weather with a 20mph crosswind after shoveling snow to be able to shoot prone. Had to shoot the centerfire at 126yds, it was the only place I could see the target over the snow. Since I was out shooting in the suck, I went ahead and banged some steel at 470yds. Learned a lot that I wouldn't have if I didn't have to go out and shoot the targets. Learned I suck at wind calls, and in the winter months, my dope is way off compared to my summer charts. I'll be subscribing again for the 2014 season as soon as they'll be accepted.

Cant wait for the results. Definitely going to resubscribe. And make it a point to actually mail all of them in, I think I missed 2 this last year do to weather and crap. Awesome Cause

OK gang, I just thought I would share with you, my new girlfriend "Dixie"!! Her details are below...

24" Heavy Barrel (still unsure of the twist.. prolly 9.25)

Triad Tactical Coyote Brown Stockpack
RatMag 10 Round High Capacity Mag
Savage M12 LRP Bottom Metal
Modified Accutrigger 1.5#
Weaver Tactical Rail 20MOA
Seekins 30mm Low Rings

And lastly, but certainly not the least in any way...

Vortex Viper PST 6-24x50mm MRAD scope...

Once again, we all thank the wonderful and generous sponsors, and JB, for all of their hard work to make this a reality!!

thats a nice looking rifle z71rat, dont see many with stocks like that nowadays.

must be nice winning a damn nice scope like that. I've got a sfp 6-24 pst. I would be more than a little happy if I won a pst from smack the smiley. Its a great opportunity for all of us. Last match I won a new cleaning rod, which is much better than nothing.

Thanks TCT3!!

I have been fortunate over the years with the lottery here!! Believe me, I was as surprised as I could be... and couldn't be happier!!

Stick with the Smiley's!! Not only is the competition a blast, it is beneficial in making the shooter stick to the basics, and the return on your investment can't be matched anywhere, at any price!! I wish more people would get involved too. Good cause, good friends, good shooting... no downside to it at all!!

DK

Let's hope that when the results come in we get to experience the win.

Also looking forward to subscribing for another year to help a great cause

Right on! Thanks to JB and all involved, especially Vortex this time around:) What a blast! Man if my RF confidence shot hadn't blown, I would have been in the top 10. Apparently I need to kick the CF build into a faster gear.

Awesome News, I love this competition. Can't wait for the next one, I should have both my rimfire and my centerfire ready to roll. Sending off money Friday for the Subscription.

SWEET!!!!

Congrats to HillbillySniper our WINTER Match Winner! Won both classes at the same time - What a day at the range!

DAMN good shooting Joe!!!!!!!!!!!!

Many thanks Jason for all your work on the STS. I really do enjoy shooting this match.

Specials thanks to all the sponsors that give so generously. Thank you Rock Creek.

Congrats Hillbilliesniper, good shooting.

Looking forward to the coming year.

Regards

Mark

Thanks to Jason and great shooting Hillbilly Sniper! Man, the competition just keeps getting tougher. I lost the rimfire once with a 279 and once with a 283. It is getting to the point that you have to break 280 to have a shot at winning!

I still have never won a CF comp, but I am humbled to place in the top 3 this time around.

Big thanks to Jason and GAP - I look forward to this everytime it comes around!

Wow!! This is so awesome!! I FINALLY shot a nice round in the Rimfire Class!! Too much fun!!

Thanks to Jason, the sponsors, and all the shooters out there!! Keep them barrels warm!!
