Rifle Scopes Bushnell XRS QC Issues?

Hello, brand new forum member here with my first post.

I recently acquired a 6.5CM RPR and decided to pick up two scopes to compare, the Burris XTR II 5-25 and Bushnell XRS 4.5-30. After spending a day looking through both scopes side by side and jogging through the turrets, etc, I decided to keep the Bushnell and send back the Burris. I mounted the scope and took it out to sight in 3 days later. After my 3rd sight in shot, on my next elevation adjustment, I noticed the elevation turret base was loose and wiggling as I clicked through the mils. Without much effort the entire turret base unscrewed completely. Needless to say I was highly disappointed in my ruined range trip. I sent the scope off to Bushnell's lab repair department yesterday and hoping for a quick turn around.

Can anyone tell me if this is something common for Bushnell products? I really like the scope otherwise, and I am still intending to keep it at this point once I receive it back from repair. However it has made me a little gun-shy of the scope. When I first unboxed it felt like a real tank, extremely well built, and when it just fell apart on my first range trip it was disheartening.

There are thousands of these out there and this is the first I've ever seen something like this happen. Somewhat more common are people screwing up the zero stop adjustment and binding the turret. It's all covered by lifetime warranty, wouldn't sweat it.

Agree with Lawn on this, extremely rare occurrence for sure, so take heart, Bushnell will fix 'er up for you good as new. Even the best & most expensive scopes can havea QC problem occasionally.
If you are going to set the zero stop when you get it back, follow the instructions available on Accuracy tech and avoid a comman problem with this these (XRS, ERS) with locking up the elevation turret. Otherwise, you have a very good and durable scope that will give you a lifetime of good service.

Damn hulk, what did you do? Looks like you could break an anvil with a rubber mallet. LOL. Just messing around. I have never seen that one before either. Had a couple zero stops go haywire on me. Those were the only troubles I ever had with mine. Bushnell will square you away. It just always sucks to have to wait.

Thank you for the feedback. I needed that reassurance that this wasn't a common failure area for this scope. Thank you also for the tip on the setting the zero stops, I will definitely look that up when it comes back.

Also glad to get extra confirmation that the glass is better than the Burris.

Now the wait begins. Anyone know what the typical turn around time is from Bushnell?

Likewise, I have an XRS, and I have pounded the bejeebus out of that thing (in a small light skiff across open ocean). It has always held zero and dialed correctly. Gotta be a fluke. Keep us posted as to how Bushnell responds.

Expect something on the order of two to three weeks including transit time. They are pretty good about getting stuff back to you. They will make a decision on either fixing your scope or sending you another of the same model. They sent me another on my H2DMR with 2 years of service before I screwed it up. Yes, I screwed it up and freely admitted that in the cover letter I sent them. Still no issue, got a (probably) rebuilt scope and the new one was FDE while the old was black. No issue for me as my barreled action is FDE and the match up pretty well.

For what little i've used the Bushnell warranty (checking the tracking of a scope, seeking out a 2" sunshade) they've been fine. I thought my ERS wasn't tracking (it was tracking fine) turns out the smith i had previously used bedded my barrel channel and the barrel was making contact. They also sent me a 2" sunshade for free.

As i had said one a previous thread i've never seen a DMR/ERS/XRS fail. I'd say it's a very rare occurrence.

Just because something breaks, that does not mean there's a QC issue. Provided we're talking about the 34mm main tube model (several times I've seen a 30mm tube ET model referred to as the XRS), I can assure you it's one of the most reliable optics available, as is the entire DMR lineage of Bushnell scopes.
If it's within 30 days the vendor may exchange it for you. If not Bushnell will take care of it, but I understand it sucks waiting for something you just bought to get fixed.

I definitely wasn't trying to insinuate that they have a QC issue, I was merely inquiring as to if they did have a known QC issue. It seems to be a resounding "no" that they do not, which is exactly what I was hoping to hear, and am relieved. It is a 34mm model as well. I have yet to hear anything from Bushnell on it, will continue the wait and pray I get a replacement before my May 20th long range shooting trip.

I am just going to repost my post from Facebook on a long range group I'm in.... TLDR version = Bushnell is complete garbage, never again.

I feel like I need to share a horrible experience I've recently had with Bushnell. I bought an XRS 4.5-30 scope (~$2k) new from Midway. I get the scope in, mount it on my rifle, take it out to sight it in and the top turret base completely unscrews and the whole turret comes off. Great. So I send my brand new scope to Bushnell for repair. It takes about 2.5-3 weeks to get the scope back. It comes back with an invoice for $10 due for return shipping even though it's supposed to be covered under their no questions asked warranty, what the hell?? Next I go to make sure the zero stop is reset before I take it to the range and they reassembled the turret incorrectly so that the hex key holes in the inner turret don't line up with the screws so that it can be set or reset. I was able however to rebuild the top of the turret correctly and solve that problem. So I go to look through the scope and there's a huge hair inside of the tube stuck to the reticle.... At this point I'm about ready to chuck this thing through a window. Needless to say it's boxed up and on its way back to Midway for a complete refund.

I decided to replace it with a Kahles k624i with SKMR3 reticle. Praying that it's a trouble free experience with this new scope.

CSTactical Well I would have to say you are right about that. I feel I definitely need to follow up on this thread here as well. Steve Hanna at Bushnell personally called me about 15-20 minutes ago after hearing about my story. They were more than accommodating and apologetic for the problems that the scope and Bushnell's repair department caused. Knowing I had already returned the scope to Midway, they are sending me out a new one in good faith that I will test it out and report back that what happened here was a complete fluke. I really do hope that is the case! This was above and beyond what most companies would do for a customer when it comes to a ~$2k piece of merchandise. I give many thanks to Bushnell for reaching out to rectify this situation.

P.S. CSTactical I placed my order for my new Kahles replacement with y'all last night. Didn't realize you were on here, hope the new scope fits the bill for me!

You will love it! If you don't love your new scope than please call us and we will get you taken care of

Everything sounds promising, thanks for the reassurance.

My scope showed up to their lab repair department yesterday. Do they inform you at all of the status or receipt of your item, or you just randomly receive something in return at some point down the road?

I actually don't remember seeing any confirmation on the ticket or any update as to the status of the repair ticket. I got it back one day and they detailed what they had done. That was about it.
