Hi guys,

I have a Remington 700 in .308 and have it dropped into the XLR Element Chassis with the Tac Light Buttstock. I'm a total noob at precision rifle stuff so bear with me. Can anyone recommend the proper steps on adjusting the stock to fit me? I don't know anyone locally to show me the ropes, but is there a step by step process of how I would know how low/high to have the cheek pad, how far back to the stock, and how high/low to adjust the shoulder pad? I'm guessing a lot of it has to do with shooter preference, but are there any rules of thumb I can follow and adjust from there?

Thanks!

i generally keep it as short as possible......but still make sure i can cycle the bolt without smacking myself in the face.

i shoot mostly prone, so i have my buttpad set as high as it can go.......if you shoot offhand or kneeling you may want to lower it a touch.

i try to keep it with 0 cant to the stock.

cheek riser height is set so you can clearly see through the scope.

i mean, thats about it......but mostly whatevers comfy

It is all based of scope height and how far you need the lop to lay behind the rifle. One important note make sure you can remove the bolt unless you want to take stock off every time you want to take out bolt to clean etc. With my set up the lop is almost all the way out to do this but I have a tikka so the bolt is a bit longer.

Couple steps I always used:

LOP - Rest the butt of the rifle against your bicep. Keeping the but rested on your bicep, reach your forearm/hand towards the trigger. With the proper LOP, the trigger should land right at the last joint of your trigger finger.

Cheek rest - get in a good primary shooting position and relax. Close your eyes and set up as if you were ready to fire. Open your eyes. If you are not looking down the scope with no scope shadow, adjust as necessary. Repeat until you open your eyes and you are looking through a centered scope. You may have to adjust the scope forward/ backward at this point as well.

If you run prone a lot I'd make the length of pull 1/2 to 3/4 inch shorter than suggested above.
i love my element chassis!

Thanks, guys this is all great stuff! I also found this after searching the site more:

It's under the instructional videos the site offers (this one happens to be a teaser for the premium training), but it discusses LOP in pretty good detail, and mentions cheek pad adjustments but doesn't go into depth on it, so I appreciate all the additional info.
