What scopes are people using in the gas gun matches?
Looking to shoot a gas gun match next year and I'm looking for scope suggestions.
Since I've only done bolt competitions, so you need a scope with lower power?
Just curious thanks

The Nightforce ATACR 4-16x F1 has been pretty popular, as have some other similar magnification scopes. You're only going to 800 yards, and have some decent sized targets. A good mid range scope with a tree type reticle is about perfect.

I've got the Sig Sauer Tango 4 FFP 4-16x44 with the dev-L Moa,in a 20 Moa Nightforce unimount and I'm digging it a lot. It's on a S&W M&P 10 308 Win. I'm not competing with this rifle but I'm happy thus far. 308 is only capable out to 800-1000ish at it best day, the later. I'd love to have a Nightforce ATACR 4-16 but the price and the MOA reticle aren't for me. I have a 6-24x50 Tango 4 FFP on another rifle and have considered moving it over, but there goes the light weight part of the equation. The 4-16 is 26 or 28 oz.? I've been really impressed with the Sig glass. I've had three of the Tango 4 lines now and all have impressed me. I just got a Gen 2 PST 5-25 and I'd say the Sig is just below the Vortex in glass quality and that is splitting hairs. The Sig is considerably less money, so that's ok in my book.

I use a 3-18 mk6 with H58. Seems to be a good performer so far. Wish I went with the 59 with the open center but I don't know if that would make any difference on my hits and misses.

I've only shot one PRS Gas Gun Series match so far and used a NF ATACR F1 4-16x42 Tremor 3. It performed flawlessly and there were a lot of shooters running the same scope (not sure about reticles however). I used 10-16x the entire time and there was only one stage where I would have liked a little more magnification to try to spot misses with the tiny 77gr bullets but I'm not sure that it would have actually made a difference and I would have severely limited my FOV for finding the next target or spend time running magnification back and forth. Ideally better wind calling or a ballistically superior round would have made far more difference than more magnification. The Tremor 3 performed flawlessly holding elevation and wind as well as dialing elevation and holding wind, sometimes on the same stage. I'm sold on the reticle.

That optic will remain on my 223 DMR setup but the 6mm gas gun I'm putting together now will get a S&B 5-25x56 Tremor 3 but mainly because it will be shot to much further distances as well. If all shooting was inside 800 like the gas gun series (the match I shot the further targets were 680yd) then I'd have no reason to get a 5-25.

There's a lot of great options and I don't think you could go wrong with any of the quality optics in similar magnification ranges but I would highly recommend choosing one with repeatable turrets with a zero stop and christmas tree style reticle in whatever system matches the turrets. I like the Horus options the most, you can't go wrong with the Tremor 3 or a H59.

A low magnification optic would put you at a serious disadvantage.

Same scopes I use on my bolt guns. Depends more on the stages of fire and how they will be shot than the platform the scope will be mounted on.

Thanks guys so much.
I was concerned about needing a 1x on the low side for this setup. Most of the matches I've read about didn't need the low end, but wanted to see what people have had success with.

To be honest, (I'll admit it) I was running a Primary Arms 4-14, on my semi auto, and I can't stand the turrets and clarity of it. It was an optic for my semi that I didn't mind abusing. So now I'm looking to upgrade to something durable, and there are some solid suggestions here.

Thanks again. Keep the suggestions coming if you have more thoughts on the matter.

I was concerned about needing a 1x on the low side for this setup.

You can always run a 45 degree RMR or something in the event there are some extremely close targets. I saw no need for it though at the one I shot but that's only one example. There were several shooters that did have them though so it's possible they're expecting that curveball from a MD. I bought an RMR to put on mine but didn't order a mount in time so I winged it. I figured that I can point shoot accurately to 30-40yd on IPSC targets and just left it at that.

There were some stages with close steel (one stage all close steel in a pistol bay) but it was all done with pistol. I thought it was awesome incorporating the pistols into a precision match especially in 3 separate stages but a lot of guys didn't like it apparently. That said, you absolutely should go out and buy an STI DVC Tactical for these matches, it's a great excuse and it will make you look and feel like a rockstar even if you don't shoot like one, it does for me anyhow lol.

Or a 45 degree pistol sight on the front of the rail as I run on my 3 gun AR. Good for quick shots to 25 yards or so while leaving the main optic on higher power.

^^^ That looks like a nice solution too, would certainly save some coin over an RMR too. I don't know what they cost but I'm guessing a good one probably wouldn't any more than just a 45 degree mount.

I'd love a 4-16 ATACR but can't swing that kind of $$$ for a scope.

Anyone running an XTR II 2-10x42? Or would 10x be too low?

We have some 2-10 options from Burris XTR II and Vortex PST Gen II's in stock if you're interested!

Im still rocking a Vortez Razor HD Gen1 5-20x50 EBR-2C MRAD on my 308 and 6.5cm gassers. I love that scope. They have been work horses for god knows how long. Never had a single problem with it and runs great. Repurposed them to the gassers when upgrading to Gen2's on my bolt guns. I run a Vortez Razor HD Gen2 1-6 MRAD on my 2gun 223 20".

I don't compete but enjoy shooting out to distance. My current bolt set-up is a 24" 308 with a Grayboe Renegade and 4-20x50 XTR II. Considering going to a more compact rifle that would be a little more handy. Thinking about switching the Renegade for a Terrain and switching to 2-10x42 XTR II.
