Ok before you call me an idiot....lol Would it be possible to make prefit shouldered barrels and use a combination of washers/shims to time the barrel correctly for head space kind of like how some muzzle brakes use them to time them correctly or is there just not enough "meat" left on most receivers and barrel shoulders to make it work?

What you suggest would work, but would rather use a thicker recoil lug.

Yes for Remington, Savage type rifles recoil lugs of various thickness would be the answer for sure. Wouldn’t work for Tikkas with any factory type stocks though. Seems like maybe 5-6 recoil lugs of various thickness would get the barrel to time correctly.

I've done the same thing this year, using a 2nd .250 recoil lug as the shim, switching between one action to another. I did have to cut the lug portion off, essentially making it a thick washer. I also sanded it down to .245 to make it work. The barrel shot fine, but it was more of a bandaid fix for my perticular solution.
