Rifle Scopes Sig Tango6 1-6 Gen1 vs. Gen2

Hi All,

Please forgive me if this has already been covered and point me in the right direction. I'm trying to figure out what the differences are between the Gen 1 and Gen 2 Tango6 1-6x scoped are. I've been looking around for a while now but haven't found any really solid info.

I did find mention of the turrets being different but no specifics on how it was changed.

Are there other changes, such as glass quality, coatings, illumination brightness, etc?

I see that the Gen 1's are available at some pretty sweet prices currently and am considering getting one of them but don't want to buy one and later realize that there are things that are improved enough in the Gen 2's that I should have waited and bought the Gen 2.

Lastly, not directly related to the Gen 1/Gen 2 questions, which Vortex model does it compare to? I see many comparing it to the Razor HD II and others are saying it's comparable to the Viper PST Gen II. If it's on par with the Viper then the value vs. Vortex isn't nearly as good since they're the same price, give or take. If the Tango 6 compares favorably to the Razor, then there's some serious value.

To the best of my knowledge the optics did not change for the 1-6x24 between Gen 1 and Gen 2. It is the only model in the line-up that did not change a whole lot. Honestly, I thought it was quite nice to begin with, but I did not like the tall turrets. They were really out of place on a LRVP scope and they fixed it in Gen 2. I am not sure about illumination brightness differences, if any.

I just fired off an e-mail to the product line manger for Tango riflescopes with this question. He is probably very busy right now preparing for SHOT and other events, but perhaps he'll see the e-mail.

Gen 1 Tango6 was somewhere between PST and Razor in terms of quality, but closer to Razor. I tested a Gen 1 3-18x44 and really liked it:

I am now testing Gen 2 4-24x50 and it is a step up over the Gen 1, I think. I will compare it to the somewhat more expensive Vortex Razor AMG and see how they compare head to head. My initial impressions are very positive.

I have the v1 Tango6 and really like it. I was considering selling it but its hard to find anything that will outright beat it at the ~$780 price point.

Great info! If there's no difference in glass on the 1-6 then I'd totally go with the Gen 1, turret knobs and possibly brighter illum aren't going to be worth $5-600 more to me. Hope you get a reply from your Tango contact, I'd love to hear what he has to say as well.

My thoughts exactly on this optic. I was considering the Viper PST Gen II or the XTR ii but from what I've been able to gather, the Tango6 tops them both generally. The Tango6 weight is decent as well compared to others in the category.

To follow-up: there is no difference in glass or illumination (which is daybright, I think). The turrets are different (I prefer the lower profile turrets on Gen 2), the eyepiece focus ring is different (metal instead of rubberized) and the Gen 2 includes a throw lever with it, that does not come with the Gen 1.

Knowing Sig, I would not be surprised if there were other changes coming a bit further down the road (they seem to be improving their products rather aggressively), but the ones above are the differences between Gen 1 and Gen 2 1-6x24.

Sweet, thanks so much for the info! Although the improvements would be nice on then Gen 2, for the price I can't pass up the Gen 1. I'll try to hold off a bit though for SHOT show, as you alluded to, I wouldn't be surprised to see a 1-8 or maybe Gen 3 1-6 show up.

I've learned so much from the forums here and appreciate all the expertise that is shared.
