Does anyone have any information, reviews or first hand experience with this new model? I'm in the market for a lightweight (sub 30oz), FFP, Horus scope for hunting, plinking and eventually PRS when I return conus on a Savage 10 BA stealth 308.

Im trying to stay 1500$ range so with Leupolds MIl discount, it's perfect. I'm trying to compare to a used MK6 with same features. Please don't offer me other scope options, I have been researching for months.....Thanks y'all.

You've been researching for months and you came up with Leupold? Since you don't want any other options I'll just leave it at that. I am not a Leupold hater, just think there are better options for your money, but if you have your heart set on the Mark 5 then I'll be curious to hear your experience.

Please do yourself a favor and broaden your search to one of the many better available options. You'll be glad you did ;)!

The mk5 looks like it could make a big jump into the game. Saw a vid on the turrets and they sound awesome. Looking forward to seeing one in person. Only downside is the 35mm tube.

You are not going to get much love on this site for Leupold. I am one of the handful that really like their scopes. I've been wondering the same about the new Mark 5. From what I've been told, it is pretty much the same glass as the 6 and 8. The difference is in the build quality. Apparently, Leupold isn't designing this to be as hefty as a mark 6 or 8. Either way we won't know much about them until about two months after shot show. With the price you're getting it for there isn't much competition to it except maybe the Athlon Cronus. Just remember, you are probably going to be waiting to get it from them. I've been waiting awhile for a mark 8 I have on order. I would buy with confidence if that's what you want.

Whether buying new or used you know you are covered by the Leupold lifetime warranty. The Mark 5 has a 35mm main tube and the ability to make 3 turns (30 MIL) on the dial compared to a 34mm main tube and 2 turn dial (20 MIL) on the Mark 6. With push button zero lock you always know where your 0 is and don’t have to worry about bumping it on the fly.

Bang for the buck the Mark 5 is difficult to beat.

Thanks for some of the positive responses guys. I have picked up on the Leopold hate throughout the Hide, but this still seems the best place for reviews and current info. I think its too new and under-desired with a weird release to have good info this early.

The Mk5 prototype that I touched was a very nice scope.
I looked through it and saw a crisp, clear image with no apparent distortion at any magnification and no visible color fringing.

Emotions aside, it's technically a well thought-out scope with nice features.

Haters will hate.

Just got an email back from Leopold. They will release more info after SHOT 2018.

I have no experience with the mk5, but, I really like my mk6 and mk4 ER/T M5A2. I have used that Mk8 and S&B's at work and they are great scopes, ive shot NF NSX in the past, have not shot the beast or atacr line but i am sure they are awesome.

while there are other manufactures that make a great, and i would even say better scope, i dont think that with MIL discount they make a 1000 dollar better scope.

I own two mk4 ER/T M5A2 and a Mk8 -along with some Vortex, Trijicon and other brands . In my opinion the mk4 ER/T M5A2 are the best scopes Leopold has every made.
I live close to Leopold and have had the opportunity to shoot the Mk6 and various Nightforce and Sig scopes in competitions.
The Mk4 is by far my favorite .....the TMR reticle just works with my brain.
I hated the Mk6...horrible color fringing.

It's taken Leopold far too long to catch up with the needs of the competition-minded consumer- which is a shame. Vortex has eaten everybody's lunch here .
Nightforce, Kahles and Sig have had some great scopes on the market for the past several years. There are also interesting rumblings coming out of Nikon.

All that said, this mk5 has piqued my interest.
Add the MIL discount and Leupy is a bargain.
