Looking for a new car, my old MKVIII shit the bed. By new I mean old. Are people on Craigs List in Colrado all retarded? Do people in your state by and large all put NO SCAMMERS/NO TIRE KICKERS in their adds? Do people respond when you inquire about their adds? I was 2 out of 10. Is this pretty normal? I never messed on Craigs List, seems full of retardary at first glance.

Yea that will deter all the scammers. And if I am selling a car, please come kick the tires, I can't sell it to over the internet.

As in Lincoln Mark VIII. Nice those were cool cars back in the day. Personally preferred the Mark VII body as it was a little more muscle car-ish. But the Mark VIII had some cool features.

Sorry I worked at a Ford Dealer for a long time. I saw a 1988 Ford Tempo the other day (has to have been 15 years since I saw one) and thought "fuck I remember when those came off the tranporter".

Yea the MKVIII Lincoln 1998. Only had 150k on it too. One day it wouldn't start everything was working right so I checked compression and it lost it down one side. I talked to a guy who bet a timing chain guide broke and the chain jumped a tooth on the bank with very little compression. Makes sense. So I took it apart, its about like picking sardines through the top of a soda can, but got it apart chain is non time and everything was intact. I may take the head off that side just to look. Must be terminal though.

Lost compression as in 30-40psi, not bent valve 0 psi.

I've never seen that on Craigslist ads, and both my father and I check on Craigslist for trucks, hunting leases, boats, travel trailers, etc. We are on our way now to Houston now to look at a travel trailer and a z71, that puts us in Texas. Maybe it's something common in other states???

I went thru the same thing looking to buy a 4 wheeler last spring. Out of about 10 ads (posted within a few days) only about 3 or 4 even responded when i asked a few questions. Then only 1 or 2 of those had a title. CL is a good place to buy or sell but only if you can put up with the dumb stuff.

I left someone a VM about an ad on an enclosed trailer a couple months ago. They didn't call back, but started sending me texts saying they were selling for their boss that was leaving the country in a few days and the trailer was in Atlanta, although the ad said it was in Auburn. I'm not sure what their next move was going to be, but I was sure it was a scam of some sort.

They are trolling for your phone number. I learned that the hard way a couple of years ago. Only communicate via C/L e-mails, up until the point where you are confident they are legit. If they get all huffy about it, chances are good it's a scam. The legit ones will just about always say "I know what you mean, I understand, I've had those problems too". If you are advertising something, never put your phone number in the post. I always put the following text in the ad; "If you are interested, please e-mail me back with the listing description and your phone number. I will call you back just as soon as I have that information".

There's an app called offerup which tends to have pretty good deals on vehicles (at least in the Houston area) and the sellers aren't completely retarded IME.

Forget Craigslist, use Ebay motors. Ive found some good deals there, most of them have a CarFax report. Check the number of positive feedbacks.

Almost forgot. That has the 32 valve engine in it. Later to become the mustang "cobra" motor. Before you shit can it you might want to check into parting it out or something. You need anything specific PM me (tools, info) @1J04 can tell you all about my "customer care".

I bought my Jeep off Craigslist, I wanted a Cherokee, and pay cash. I looked on Denver CL and found a nice white one with a 3” lift installed and new tires! $3500. I looked up the address and it was actually in my hometown in Cheyenne Wyoming. Not 10 minutes away from me, went and looked at it and took it home for $2800 cash. Runs like new!!!

Ford?

Found On Road Dead.

Honda FTMFW. Mine is 7 years old and I'm at a little over 181,700 miles with $0 spent on repairs. Maintenance costs have also been the lowest of any vehicle brand that I have ever owned and that includes Chrysler, Dodge, Volkswagen, Porsche, and Volvo.

Craigslist is the devil’s love den. I did a lot of business on Colorado’s Craigslist BUT use some simple rules.
  • Use a spare number and email -anything you post or use on Craigslist will be exploited. Folks will email you as “interested” or set up a fake post just to get that info.
  • Don’t give anyone any unnecessary information
  • Don’t bring people to your home if possible. Meet them at Starbucks. Some police stations in Colorado started letting Craigslist folks meet in their parking lots.
  • ALWAYS carry. Bring a friend (who carries too is a plus) if possible. Being alone make you an easy mark.
I was lucky and never had any trouble. More than once I had women meet me alone at my storage unit. I would politely advise them to be more careful. Being extra careful on Craigslist is just responsible PERSEC. We had a well know person in Boulder shot and killed over a simple car deal. There were red flags he ignored. Like showing up for a test drive with a 12 pack. He drove and they killed him and took his car......

Always carry, don't buy a gun for self protection and leave it at home. True words. A lot of rotten his been interjected into our society, you can pretend it doesn't exist or try to be ready for it.

Yea we will push it out in the row with the other projects. The xenon gas headlights, we just did the air bags, new tires, probably almost as much sitting there as the old car was worth. I meant the marks were in time not, "non time"
