I feel like responding to any of the numerous counterpoints will make me sound combative, which isn’t the case. So, let me stick my toe back in the water and offer (respectful) response here;
Besides 200+ million (probably also well armed) citizens competing for a what will be a very rare resource, your battery powered drill will not operate due to EMP killing the miniature motor drive inside of it. EMP is indiscriminate, it lays waste to everything electronic. Let’s say I’m wrong on the drill. How will you charge the battery when the charger’s electronics are fried ? Let’s say I’m wrong about the charger, how will you power the the charger ? The Utility/grid controls systems are a heap of smoldering ashes. OK, let’s say I’m wrong about the grid, but you want to use your generator to power your charger to power your drill to pump gas being fought over by armed, desperate people, just like you. Your generator won’t work either. Standalone wind or solar system ? Nope, uses power electronics too. EMP will probably also smoke the solar cells themselves.
My point being with all this is that society will have decayed into mayhem and chaos within minutes of an EMP event. It will be survival of the fittest and the critically scarce resources will first go to those willing to take any measures necessary to get them. Yes, there will be people that will be able to get gas from the stations storage tanks, provided they use manual pumps and are willing to shoot their way into, during acquisition and out of any given gas station. The gasoline supplies will be depleted within 24hrs and will not be replenished due to the refineries control systems being destroyed and the transit/delivery systems being rendered non-existent. That is not a scenario I am eager to see.

Pay careful attention to what Turdcutter says here folks, if you have a running vehicle I would be very hesitant to advertise it. I live on the edge of the city and desert, I have 30-40 pigeons and quail in my yard every day, javelina and wild donkeys walking thru the neighborhood on a nightly basis and I am an 8 mile mountain bike ride thru an uninhabited area to a 400 acre lake full of clean fresh water. if shit goes seriously wrong you need to be prepared to lay low and attract as little attention as possible and ride things out.
Good advice but sometimes you saddle up, arm yourself and roll. Why? because you are in the middle of the afore mentioned sh!t. And suvival means flight.

We had a power outage - some lines came down due to an idiot driving a dump truck with the bed up....
During daytime, it is amazing how quiet the area gets without power.... and the neighbors who have Generac back up home generators.... those are crazy loud when the power is off....

I suppose thats another point I should have made earlier. Why roll anywhere, when your every means of defense and survival is at home ? Yes, there will be those of you that have either legitimately, or at least have claimed to have stocked “the mountain hideaway”. For those few of you that really know your shit, have formal training and are confident in both what you have done and what you need to do, you’re probably golden. For those of you that haven’t/don’t, you’ll have a much higher chance of being just another statistic, particularly if you have been telegraphing your moves/preparations to all of your buddies. In times of emergency, it is amazing just how many loud mouths have done absolutely nothing in terms of prep, but still brag to their buddies “how much AK ammo they have stashed”. Food, water, ammunition and gold will likely be the predominant coin of the realm and probably in that order.

I've really been thinking about my job and lifestyle a lot lately so this is perfect timing. I absolutely hate my job but there isn't much in the area that pays anywhere close to what I'm making so I've just dealt with it for the last 6 years so I could continue having nice shit. I'm looking at finally changing jobs now that my wife has good insurance with her new job. I am looking at taking about a $7 an hour hit in pay which sucks but I could make it work.
