"... For the first time ever, retired USMC Major and past NRA Secretary Edward J. "Jim" Land Jr. is lending his name and his signature to a custom tactical rifle, along with his personal involvement in the design and testing of the firearms. Would you please ask Maj. Land who Bucky Malson was and what part he played in support of the Major in the establishment of the modern Marine Corps sniper program.

I may be mistaken, but was that photo taken at the Garand Road complex? I may be mistaking the site with the US Marine Corps Scout Sniper School.

Also, could anyone please identify the other elder gentleman in the group photo. I think he looks vaguely familiar to me.

Greg, I don't think Mags actually knows Maj Land, you might want to reach out to him or the USMCSSA directly with your question. I've never heard of him (that means nothing though, I'm a 90s-2000s HOG), and he isn't mentioned in Col Culver's memoirs on the origins of the USMC SSIS. http://www.bobrohrer.com/sea_stories/history_of_the_usmc_sniper_school.pdf

And yes, that's the schoolhouse located at the Quantico Ranges on Garand Road.

The other gentleman's name is MSgt Gary Gregory, USMC Ret.

    From the main article:

Land embraced the chance to work with APO, already having a connection to the team there through former Ordnance Production Manager Gary Gregory. A retired marine Master Sergeant, Gregory spent many years serving in the Corps with Land as a gunsmith for the Shooting Teams, and the two have remained close friends over the years. Since his retirement from APO in 2016, Gregory has continued to offer his expert guidance and consultation on projects, and he wasn’t about to turn down the opportunity to participate in this one too.
“When we get called to do something for the major, we don’t do it because he’s a higher ranking officer than us,” said Gregory. “We do it because we still love that man, and we respect what he does and has done. So when they said that they wanted to do this project with him, I jumped at the chance.”
Gregory will provide the final inspection and approval on the signature rifles, entrusted by Land to ensure that only the best product and performance leaves the shop bearing his name. “The only person that I trust to sign my name on something is Gregory,” the major emphasized.

Maggs, you are so right, thanks for the reminder.

Red, thank you immensely and I will follow it up when I am slightly less than three sheets to teh prevailing wind.

Busy Saturday at a busy VFW. Rummage sale, a lotta junk left over. We had a 'detail'. Guys will be guys, and our friends across the Formica were amenable.

    Thanks.

M/Sgt Gregory should not be in my memory, but... Maybe he can recall M/Sgt Parker.

I can't really say, but I may remember him from the mid-90's at the RTE shop.
