Like everything else, they've managed to screw up making rubik's cubes. When I was growing up the colors were stickers and anyone with two fuckin brian cells knew the fastest way to solve it was to just move the stickers. Now The Color Is Molded In??? How is anyone supposed to solve this damned thing? If I were to solve it (it's a trick, it's not possible without moving stickers) would it unleash pinhead and hell on earth?

Ha! A friend of mine used to hold the world record for most rubik’s cubes solved while running a marathon. He did it to raise money for a charity. He was bumped off by some dude in NZ last year it looks like

Had one of the original Hungarian made versions , it was much smother and ran better than the
later versions . Took me a couple of days to solve it , prolly about 4 hours of actual use . My
father , knowing my habit of dismantling everything in his garage , said ‘ if you pull this thing
apart I’m taking it off you ‘ .....

I remember trying to solve that fucking thing as a kid back in the 80’s. Think I could only manage 2 or 3 sides max. I remember it spawned a bunch of similar puzzles. I wanna say their was one called “The Pyramid" which you had to make into various shapes. I loved the 1980’s, LOL.

Apparently solving them things underwater is a popular thing according to YouTube searches. I can solve a 3x3 pretty easily, but doubt I could do so underwater. My dumbass self would somehow manage to drown probably. I'm sure you all would hate that. ;)

You don’t need to be smart to solve a rubic’s cube. There is a rather simple algorithm used to move the pieces in order and “solve” the puzzle. Once you know the algorithm it is simply running the sequence in order until the sides are solved. I solved the cube the first time the same way that SirM did- way pre internet. The second time I used the algorithm found via google. I thought the first solution was brilliant- definitely thinking outside the box. The second solution was like a cookbook chemistry lab assignment. No learning or discovery. Meh, it’s a toy.

I understand that at least three 'Mods are currently trying to organize the Maser underwater Rubix Cube Challenge....

it doesnt matter how you solve it.....so long as its solved.

There are equations used to determine the minimum number of moves based on distribution of certain colors. Algorithms. I never got into it but some mathematicians did when I was in school. Those guys would figure it out on paper and then just do it, no trial and error at all. The math necessary to do it can be done by just about anybody too but like with everything in math you can of course make it as complex as you like.

But all those guys that finish 'em in seconds are all using algorithms, basically just memorizing a series of moves and going from there. It's the same way someone calculates pi to infinity. I worked out pi's infinite series once and all you have to do to name off each decimal point is to solve for x each fraction in that series, but x is just 1, 2,....,n-1, n. It's simple once you know how.

If doing it the old fashioned way, I think you're supposed to try and get one field colored in, then work on the others until they're all solved. Can be easier said than done too.

I'm also guilty of swapping the stickers too!

Its just like shooting. If you apply yourself. Follow the fundamentals. If you really want to solve these you can do it. The issue is many of us have very very little interest in solving them. I for one have no need to prove (or disprove in my case ?) existence of intelligence.

One of the kids left one sitting on the coffee table. I picked it up and worked on it for about 20 min and was nowhere near having it solved. I did notice that what I was missing on one side would often be in the correct spot on the opposite side of it. I finely decided the real test was how long I would screw with that thing when I could be spraying or mowing. Grabbed a couple beers out of the frig and got on the mower; I started feeling like a winner. :-D

i think the rubiks cube was invented by a cat, pissed off a
