Anybody watching the Belmont Stakes?

It was. Wire to wire over a mile and 1/2 course against that level competition is a very amazing accomplishment. Makes a big statement.
If you're a fan, watch Secretariat's run in the Belmont.

Makes a big statement when your selling the winner's frozen sperm for $200,000 a tube. And he has lots of tubes.

He's a pretty special horse. Running thoroughbreds is known as the sport of kings for good reason. The money is GINORMOUS. Where the money resides is not in purses won but in stallion breeding revenue. It will be interesting to see if Justify will be run in the Breeder's Cup Classic come Nov.

Here is a link to a link to the Wikipedea page on Northern Dancer who is generally considered to be the most influential stud of the 20thC. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Northern_Dancer

Thoroughbred breeding rules require live cover (no artificial insemination) and no embryo transplant. That can still result in a couple of thousand foals in a breeding career. Pharaoh's stud fee is currently estimated to be $200K times 2K foals is $400,000,000. Reportedly his breeding rights were sold for $19,000,000. The hook is that the progeny must perform. If there are no stellar runners in his first couple of foal crops things will change. Conversely, if there are big runners, the fees will go up.
