Well my initial thought was to build using a bunch of AR parts including a spare upper and lower I had laying around but have no idea what the pro's and con's are to this approach using adapters, etc. Was not planning to spend a ton of money but certainly not interested in wasting it either. About the only thing I can say for sure is it would not be suppressed as I don't have any cans.

Dam that's nice. My son is like "just build one like that dad!". Rough budget if you care to share?

So you went with blow back. Did you consider piston or DI? Also I hear you don't want to go too long on the barrel. What is the max length I should consider?

My son and I breaking it in with WW 115FMJ. He loves it, I have to pry it from his hands to shoot it.

My 165gr subsonic handloads. Video doesnt do it justice. They are stupid quite.

After doing a ton of research and messing with various configs from friends and guys at the range I decided on blowback. Ive read or saw first hand too many home built 9mm PCC that have feeding issues, etc. After doing the research, this is what I settled on and couldn't be happier. I have not had a single malfunction, misfire, etc. It runs like a swiss watch, is very accurate and soft shooting. Since I run it 100% suppressed the 10oz Tungsten 9mm PCC buffer is key.

As you see it, fully configured with can, red dot and TLR-2 HL/Green Laser Im all in for $2,185.00. Now, if you remove the red dot, Can and Light/Laser you are looking at $1,050.00. For an additional $115.00 you can get the non-reciprocating, side charging upper as well. Spartan has side charging and non-side charging.

So, I have 2 JP GMR-13's with 40,000+ rounds on each of them. 1 is either a 16" barrel with a SiCo Omega 9K on it all the time and the other is a 14.5" pin/weld with the 3 port comp. I MD a local USPSA monthly match and a falling steel match that has a heavy PCC attendance. The 14.5" is a demo/loaner gun provided by JP for the latter of the 2 matches.

After 2 years of matches and being HEAVILY addicted to PCC, I have seen a LOT of builds / factory guns / clones etc go down. I've handed many shooters the demo / my spare personal JP GMR so they could finish the match when their gun went down. We ran 4 shooters back to back through a 250 round all steel match suppressed and the JP performed flawlessly.

If you want a project to build with your son, I would absolutely go with JP parts and I'd be happy to PM you a build list. A 14.5" pin and weld with a 3 port comp is the way to go if you don't have a suppressor, although PCC's are easily twice as fun with a can. If you're not married to that spare lower, the GMR-15 dedicated 9mm lower is a much more reliable long term option than a mag block. The GLOCK-brand-GLOCK mag compatibility is also absolutely the way to go in AR PCC's as mag reliability is just as important as the gun. I have 57, 47, 41, 36 and 33 round mags that are factory GLOCK tubes with no-fuss basepad additions. They work, period.
