General info.
11 years ago I went 6x47l, my intention was not buying factory ammo and reloading my own ammo so I bought my own custom reamer.
I'm still using the same brass from back then. Gone through 3 rifles and 8 barrels, though I sold two of the rifles with barrels in good shape with low round count. That amounts to about 37 cycles with this brass, and primer pockets, well 99% of them, are holding primers well.
The trick with 6x47L is to have your barrel throated with a long freebore like I did. That doesn't cost much. This reamer has a .208 freebore. It was made specifically for 115's. It could be shorter if you want to shoot 105's which is what I do now. those hybrids don't mind the jump to the lands. I haven't needed to worry about running out of length in the mag.
I've chased speed with 6x47L and have not been nice to any of my barrels. I had one of my best barrels melontied and shot 115 DTACS at 3000 fps in a 26", it lasted just short of 3000 rounds. Worst barrel life was 1500 rounds but that barrel wasn't a good barrel anyway. I got 2400 rounds with my first barrel which was one fantastic barrel.
IMO, I made a very good choice way back then, with no regret. Done lot's of winning with 6x47L too.
As a side note, if I go back to 6x47L in the future, I will experiment with HV100 and N160, with medium loads, because they both burn cooler, cooler than H1000, intending to extend barrel life when practicing or shooting steel. Matches I'll stay with H4831SC which works great with a long throat.
Yesterday the vertical was 3" at 775Y, one big splat. Smaller splat at 500Y. Just a wonderful cartridge that impresses. Current load is 105 hybrid going 3172 fps, out of a 28", last time I chrono'ed. 1500 rounds down this barrel.
I will probably go with a BR based cartridge for my next barrel to try out, just because I want to experiment.
