Has anyone opened up the bolt face to a .534 to run short saum/prc cartidges? 6.5 and 7 saum and similiar. I'm not sure it's possible. Could A.I. make replacement bolts to run these in a an AX 308SA? Sure would open up a lot more potential in the short action platform.

So, @samb300 sent me an improved thumb rest in black today! I did not ask for it and was very happy with the tan version. Needless to say I am impressed with the service. It does go better with the green skins. He also hinted to more bipod blocks coming soon. I know that to myself and others, this is welcomed news.
New AX Elite sand, tried 6 loads around old favourites of my AI/AT, 185 Juggernauts 43.5 to 43.9g Varget, With AI rifles load development is not much of a challenge

Ha! I can assure you guys I'm working hard at the new design and at getting these made in concert with a known manufacturer. Still don't have it all finalized, but I'll keep everyone posted as soon as possible.
Still waiting for the Masterpiece Arms chassis to arrive....

It's really good mate, made of zodiac style hypalon fabric with velcro backing. Slim and grippy, easily removable.
A good conduit between the bare rifle stock and an object if you don't have a bag or rest at hand.
Definitely worthwhile I think for the size and zero weight.

I have a post 2014 AI AX with .308 and 6.5CM barrels. Its a fantastic shooter and Im loving the rifle. Im even contemplating getting another one soon, maybe my ADD is too much. I have taken it on a couple of hunts, would love to shoot some competitions, and love a lazy range day when I can get away.
With so many options, accessories and attachments, what would be the top 10 to add to your AI AX? I think this may help out guys like me and the guys contemplating on getting into the AI game. Your thoughts?

Not necessarily AI specific, but here’s a pic of what I run at comps. SAP 2 rounder, throw lever for your optic, dope holder (I strongly prefer on rifle options), RRS Arca plate (more for riding a bag better), and I prefer an Atlas to a Harris for PRS.
Other gear I’d suggest if you’re considering a second AX would be a RRS tripod and ball head. A kestrel is very nice and the new 5700 Elite will pair to a terrapin X range finder. You need some kind of chronograph to get real world data for your dope.

After buying a RRS Tripod I am a believer, this stuff is worth the entry fee.
Must haves IMHO are a solid LRF, quality binos and/or spotter, tripod with a good base/head, shooting mat, nice bipod (I prefer Atlas), Hoptic ammo quiver or SAP 2-round, Hoptic or Wiebad cheek/comb riser pad, a Kestrel is suggested (which one is up to you and depends on your ballistic calculator means), and ballistic calculator (app on your phone, AB Kestrel, Garmin, etc.) and an effective muzzle brake (I like the APA Little Bastard).

This thread did me in. Everything is for sale in the safe and either will be purchasing a friends all pale brown ‘15 AX or New AT folder in green with the thumb hole stock kit (I think anyway... I used to have a 700 308 with a AICS 2.0 chassis that I loved). Hopefully all my stuff moves and I can appropriately partake in this thread sooner than later.
Theres a dude on Instagram (i think same name here) Tennturk who debonded his AT and put it in an mpa a while ago.

Thanks I’m just unsure about the 3 years old but unfired lol. I’m guessing being ‘15 it’s a large firing pin? I’ve seen Used 17s and low round counts list anywhere from 6000-5500ish on here. If this deal isn’t doable between us I’ll probably just order an AT folder from MHSA, But damnit id love to just get it over with and get an AX from the get go
Yes, that's a good deal. Plus it's with a 6.5 Creed barrel, so you don't need to worry about the extra $800 for a barrel other than 308. And if you end up wanting a 308 barrel you can find one for like $300 on the Hide.
Personally, I wouldn't do the deal unless you could confirm it was the small firing pin version. It's easy enough to check if the seller can remove the bolt and take the firing pin assembly out for a picture. You just never know if/when you'll want to shoot a small firing pin round like 6.5x47L or some of the Alpha variants like their 6XC or 6.5 Creed SRP brass.

I appreciate the advice. I don’t have a big collection of 6.5 brass. 100 prices Lapua and 100 pieces of Hornady. I honestly don’t see me ever doing any of the 6mm stuff. I’ve run the srp brass in my rpr without issue (large firing pin there as well). I’ve don’t some reading on here and accurate shooter and a lot of the 6.5cm srp issues come with the prefits and barrels that might not have been necessarily chambered and headspaced to that rifle. I know the newer fancy gamer chambering pretty much have to have the the small firing pin. Obviously that doesn’t mean I won’t have an issue here and if I do I’ll just move to some Peterson LRP Brass. I won’t be selling this anytime soon so the resale hit it might take being the large firing pin won’t bother me.
Edit: the 6.5 barrel was purchased from mile high right with the rifle and they did all the work on it.
My LH AT and current LH AX were both small firing pin, so I can't comment from experience, but from what I've read some users with the large firing pin still had issues with high pressure calibers, even if they were large primers. I think it comes more from the generous clearance AI uses between the firing pin and hole, rather than the pin or the headspace. Some users never had problems though, so it's no guarantee. For myself, dropping that kind of money on a new rifle it was small firing pin or bust.

No rockset, i was just test fitting.
didnt pick up the threads real easily and about two rotations in got resistance. i stopped and backed it off. put on tons of these through the years. looked everything over and retried the thread protector as a test of AI threads. went on.
started with adapter again. about 3 turns in got resistance and with my fingers / hand only i thought id just push thru. wrong. locked on there solid. i couldnt get it off with a crescent.
so thanks to help from the fine folks at LRI, i’ve now got a 20” 260 barrel. (which i wanted one eventually - but maybe not this early in.)

My factory AT was 5/8-24. Sounds like he cold welded it.
I just talked to Mile High. I asked my buddy to send me a pic of the bolt face. He said 6.5cm are hit and miss with LFP. He guessed that it being a 2015 SA AX that is was already small firing pin though. I guess we’ll see or if anyone can confirm that with thiers that would be appreciated.

I though I was going to miss the AT, that’s all gone now. Target is the first 5 rounds after getting the scope mounted. Used the load from the AT.

Question for the AX Short Action Guys: What was the deciding factor to go with a designated SA as opposed to the (LA) AXMC?
I'll be purchasing a AIAX of some flavor early 2019, and am inclined to go with the LA AXMC and then purchase a 308 bolt, adapter, and 6.5CM barrel. I will likely be 90% short action - but on paper - the LA AXMC seems to allow both with the only drawback being 1.5lb and +$1k.
Is there something I'm missing, particularly with respect to handing an ergonomics of the SA? I would appreciate any feedback prior to traveling up to EO to handle both.

for me, i’ve culled all my long actions down to 300 win mag and have two rifles already set up for that caliber. i dont have a consistent setup or time to get in to 338. so i dont really need the flexibility of going up to the axmc. more generally, i like the shorter cycle stroke on a dedicated SA and im not having to worry about spare bolts and mag converters. im sure its all reliable but to me it just sounds like more stuff to chance having an issue on, more weight etc.
The long action/AXMC weighs more and it will never feel as smooth in SA converted mode as the standard AX SA. I also shoot mostly SA calibers so I couldn't justify the added drawbacks and price for the sake of the occasional 300 or 338 outing.

Its 1k for a magnum setup. Then add the cost to get the bolt, adapter and whatever barrel to start. Since I do 95% short action it didnt make sense...just built a dedicated elr rig for the same cost id have in a MC with SA fixins. Best of both worlds and still cheaper than the amount of customs id have to fill my needs if i didn't have an AI.
