In skimming the comments, and to some degree here to - it is hard for people to understand the unpredictability of such fires. Nor do people seem to understand the speed at which they travel (esp in steep terrain), crowning fire (where its in the tops of trees), and that big fires make their own wind. Ground flame + tree top flame + burning ash + ambient wind + fire driven wind. Add to that the inability to access much of it except on foot or by water tanker. Its nothing like a fire in a flat field of grass land.

Can't believe how many people haven't tossed thousands of beer/soda cans into a camp fire over their lifetimes.
Notice the sheet metal is fine. It's the aluminum, plastic, rubber, etc that melted. Aluminum melts at a temperature roughly double that of lead, which melts if you look at it long enough. The temps coming off the shit burning around would easily reach more than a quarter higher of the temps needed to melt aluminum. That's in a modest case. I'd expect temps from a roaring inferno to reach into the low 2000s, which will fuck aluminum almost instantly.
The government need not play lasertag with abandoned vehicles when the pure ruthless force of lots of burning shit would melt down damn near anything with a melting point below 1500 or so.

I dont have a political opinion I am just showing facts. I care as much about your state as they care about us here in the heartland. If I was a cancer liek your state is my state would be burning every goddamn year now wouldn't it, but not to worry, since we manage this stuff pretty well we are sending our departments up there to help. California, as an entity, is contrary to my way of life to such a degree it could be considered hostile. The leadership of California, and ALL who support it, could be considered my enemy. While many of these folks may share a great deal in common with me, and on any other day, we very well could have a good time shooting the shit together, they, nevertheless, actively contribute to the destruction of the things I value in life. Even if you believe snopes 100% in this instance, it's clear that the objective is to control information, and the fruits of their labor will be quite abhorrent. There are countless other examples of things California does that end up influencing my life, and rarely for the better in terms of what I believe in.
This phrase, "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.", is basic for a reason.
It's unfortunate California has made the choices it has.
Rather than donate to help out the people that feed this beast, I will instead buy more ammo.
Don't take what I said the wrong way. I understand there are freedom loving Americans all over California, but their voice isn't heard, they're not represented, and they appear to have no influence over the direction of the state. All they do is help pay for it. The same is true for a lot of other places, too. It's a problem we all have to address.
California, however, needs to take some time to learn how to be free and independent again.

Get this - the Oregonian is reporting that in SoOR the Feds are going to do forest clean up and limited logging (which will be challenged in court and scaled back or just never done) on 22,000 acres. The total cost is $14MM. They believe they can recoup $2MM from logging and the remaining $12MM is to come from ‘future’ grants (i.e. it is wholly unfunded with nothing on the horizon). 22k acres doesn’t mean squat.
FYI for those that don’t know - when a fire happens if the wood is not harvested within 6 months it begins to rot. If not harvested in 12 - its worthless. Now it is a magnet for bugs and disease to the rest of the healthy forests and all of that burnout bio mass is fuel for the next fire. We have areas - each 10’s of thousands of acres, that have burned several times in the last decade b/c after the initial burn, the communist and the gov prohibited logging. As an example, if you are familiar with Crater Lake National Park - the entire North side burned in the early 2000s - every tree is fire damaged, black, diseased, most are just about dead. This area catches on fire @ every 2 yrs now. That is your government.
