I've been posting in real threads for a couple of days now - but figured I might post something here too.
I call Finland home. Just a little north of Anchorage, Alaska, but east of the Atlantic, so things look different.
I don't have a precision rifle now. Been more into pistols for some time, and shoot IPSC and some similar things. There was a Tikka M65A that I let out of my hands 20-something years ago
. Young and foolish, wanting a Steyr AUG.... It seems I've only shot accurate bolt action rifles: That Tikka M65A would go sub MOA at 100 meters with just about any decent load, off a sleeping bag or carpet roll for support. A friend's Tikka hunting rifle wasn't all that much worse with the ammo he had on hand.
And there was the Finnish M/85 sniper rifle that I got to try during a government temp job in Lebanon. We got some guns from the armoury, that we weren't usually carrying, and went to a range. Others were happy to blast rocks with the sniper rifle but I wanted to try shooting a group at 100 meters. So I put a small post-it sticker on a big paper target and fired 5 rounds off a bipod. The group was about the size of my thumbnail. Local kids, probably come to pick any brass that we left behind, were "interested" to see that we could hit small targets....
A real precision rifle is on my "list" - pending funds
. Probably something compact, as 300 meters is the longest range that I have regular access to. For longer distances, I need to travel to a friendly military range, or find a friend who owns land.
