22 creedmoor

What twist seems to be working best, I have my choice between 1-6, 1-7, or 1-8. I plan on shooting the 95smk and in my mind the 1-7 fits but would like some input.

I run 90's with a 7 and have a friend that's re an 95 with a 7 with good luck.

Has anyone purchased their own reamer for the 22 Creedmoor or know what specs their gunsmiths used? I'm looking at getting a reamer to shoot the 80 grainers with and since the barrel life doesn't seem to be super long, it doesn't seem to be a bad idea just to get the reamer for consistency between barrels.

0.257 NK OD is pretty standard. I run 95 smk at 2.775 so I had to use a uni-troater.

Barrel life is decent, around 1400 round in PRS condition. 1800 to 2000 if you take care of it.

Just saw Hornady is starting to produce 22 Creedmoor brass and dies, bet factory ammo won't be far behind

Could be interesting but Alpha is already making them and their are alot more consistent.

Thanks for the info. Any idea on the freebore length?

Have Lapua 6 creed brass to neck down or might try the Alpha 22 creed brass
RL26 & IMR4955 powder on hand.

Never tried RL26 or 4955 but I can tell you that with RL23 I get 3200 fps as a max with 42.4gr (2.776 oal) in a gain twist 1-7 to 1-6.25.

I plan testing H4831 and maybe 4955( but not in QL)

I know of a couple of people using the RL26 and getting good results. Only thing that worries me is
the quick pressure spikes do to high temps. or getting at max volume. Seems to raise pressure
at a excellerated rate when close to max. I was going to try the 4831sc, but have seen lower velocity's
when using it. The IMR 4955 is new and has close to the "burn rate" of the RL26.
The other new IMR powders seem to be doing well in other calibers. Start low and experiment,
if it doesn't work , I only bought a pound so no big deal.

H4831SC give the same speed as RL23 (around 3200 for the 95's). Ain't that slow

Does anyone have data on midweight projos launched by Varget or something similar? I’m near finished with a build that is geared towards whitetail and I have lots of Varget and lots of Barnes 62gr TSX’s I plan to make use of.

I'm shooting the Nosler 80 gr. CC bullets with H-4350. I'm loading 41 grs. and getting a Magneto Sporter reading of 3511 fps out of a 28" barrel.

Anybody use H1000 for the 95mk or 88 ELD? Trying to run PRS limits with the slowest burning powder possible.

I'm really interested as well. I'm waiting on my reamer from PTG but my plan is to run H4350 with 80.5 Bergers for fun (I've heard those will be in the 3500fps range) and either H1000 or H4831sc with the 95SMK's for local PRS matches

What are your loads?

Tried to run H1000 but I am way too compressed. Like 10% over max case capacity.

Bullet in the 90gr + will be limited in speed due to pressure caused by longer bearing wall. But still you can drive 3150 with the 95 smk.
I decided not to run lighter bullet because 3400 fps will not be barrel friendly and is over PRS speed rules.

My 22 Creedmoor shot the 80.5 Berger and the 80 Gr. Nosler CC the same with H-4350. I went with the Nosler because they are cheaper and suit my needs.

I've got 4350, 4831 and H1000 to try with the 95s and 88s. Not sure what my OAL will be and if there is enough room for H1000.

What dies are you all using for seating and FL sizing?
I've got Forster's in 6 creed, will the seater work?
I know Whidden has them, but most on here don't
like their quality. I've heard Redding will make them for you.
Just call Forster today (12-27-18) and they said they've talked about making a 22 creed die
but don't have anything down as to a time line. So I'm guessing months.
I'm waiting for Josh at PVA to chamber my barrel
so I'm picking up the need supplies before it comes.

Call: https://www.accuratearmsandammo.com/

They will order them through Redding for you. They’ve only got standard FL sizers and Seaters at this time. I also got the micrometer seating die as well through them. Accurate Arms & Ammo are a pleasure to deal with; you can’t order directly through Redding, Accurate is who they sent me to for the process.

I'm using a Wilson 6.5 Creedmoor seater with a 22-250 seater installed. For sizing I use a Redding 6 Creedmoor F L Type S bushing die. Works like a charm, no problems.

Just received my Alpha (SRP) 22 creed brass. Wanted to post a little info.
I know weight doesn't mean everything, but it does show they start with a
very consistent plug to start with and guessing the internal volume would match closely.
94% of the brass was within .3 Total variance .5g
161.2=3
161.1=11
161.0=55
160.9=18
160.8=10
160.7=3

This is much tighter than any Lapua I've checked for any caliber.

That’s good to hear. I had to outside neck turn the Starline 6cm brass I resized in order for it to chamber in the rifle I recently finished.

I did measure the neck thickness with a slide mic. So take it at it's worth,
but was very consistent at .014

I'd like to have more data on the 95's.

I gave up on the RL23. Nodes are too narrow and accuracy is around 0.5 ish max.

I'll try H4831SC now.

OK, Redding dies are here, 1000 SRP Fed 205, and Alpha brass on the way, bullets and most required powders on hand. Gun wont be finished till April. 24" 1-7 Proof.

"most" bullets...how far off the land are they the most comfortable?

looking for some RL-26

What bullets you going with? I find the 95 SMKs like a 15 thou jump.

I have 75gr Hornady match HP, Sierra 80gr MK's, 77SMK, 69SMK and just bought Berger 80.5 Fullbore after reading here. My rifle will wear a 7 twist, so 95's will be tough. Have, H-4350, IMR4451, Varget, 4831sc, RE-16, .

Completed a test with H4831SC. Found a good nodes between 40.2 and 41.1gr.

40.2 - 3076 fps - SD: 6.8 fps ES: 16 fps
40.5 - 3085 fps - SD:11 fps ES: 21 fps
40.8 - 3084 fps - SD:2 fps ES:5 fps
41.1 - 3098 fps - SD: 4.6 fps ES: 9 fps

I am at 0.010 of the lands( 2.778 coal) with the 95's. Groups are not too bad 0.5" at 200 yards.

Wow... I never would've thought guys would push 3400+ in a 24" barrel. I'm guessing with 88 ELD-M and RL16 or 26 could be in the 3100-3200fps range with an 18" barrel?

Seems like a pretty good PRS contender.

OK guys, a buddy (on my advice) just got his 22 Creedmoor barrel in from Greg at Bugholes. He has bullets galore and Alpha brass but no dies.
Redding says only offering is a non-bushing set thru Accurate Arms & Ammo and they are not in stock.
It appears to me that all the 22 Creedmoor is is a 6.5 Creedmoor necked down and that he go gauge is the same for both. Correct?
Since he has 22 Creedmoor brass why can't we just use, say, a Redding body die, a bushing NK die (with something like a .250 bushing) and install one of the Redding micro seating tops made to handle 224 bullets for seating?

6 Creedmoor seating die works perfect for the heavier longer .224 bullets and for sizing Whidden has a 22 Creedmoor die available. I tried one of my 6.5 dies with smaller bushings and it didn’t size brass as good as my 22 Creedmoor die.

Please explain what "didn't size brass as good as my 22 Creedmoor die".
Are you talking about shoulder bump ability or neck diameter?
Also, working with brass that was initially 6/6.5CM or with the Alpha 22CM brass?

I used a Redding 6.5 creedmoor bushing die and put a .251 bushing in it. Necked down alpha (the alpha was neck turned to .014) and lapua both, and both necked down just fine. However, test seated a bullet in both, and on the lapua i can see where the base of the bullet i sits in the neck, a "bulge' of sorts. I'm thinking i may need to step up to a .252 bushing with the lapua and see if that works. hoping to not have to neck turn.

Also in seating i used the standard 6mm creed seating die and it actually worked good, i was seating berger 70 grainers

I run a Hornady match bushing FL in 6 creed with a 0.250 bushing and it's perfect for my 22.

My Forster ultra match in 6 creed work perfectly with my 0.224 95 smk

I use a non bushing FL (whidden) if I neck down 6 creed or 6.5 creed to 22.

I found it didn’t size uniformly at the neck shoulder junction.

OK, so you were using a bushing die. These dies will never size the neck all the way down. Whenever I feel the need to size the neck all the way down to the shoulder I use a Hornady neck sizing die. They are generic for caliber and not cartridge so they never touch the shoulder so the only stop is the shell holder.
You still have not addressed my question as to whether you were using Alpha 22CM brass or forming from another brand 6/6.6CM brass.
No matter, as my buddy found out he had a "spare" set of 6.5CM Type S dies so I put together a parts list of things that would make using them for 22CM an easy step.
Thanks for your reply though.

I am using Alpha 22 brass now but started out with Hornady 6 Creed brass. When sizing down using one of my 6.5 Creedmoor bushing dies felt some brass didn’t chamber as good as it should. Could it be from 6.5 die not sizing as much of the brass as a dedicated 22 die? Maybe, maybe not but sizing again brass chambered easier. The Alpha brass works great and I’m waiting on some samples from Peterson to see how it performs.

NICETRY, Or anyone using the Alpha brass. What size bushing are you using?
I'm waiting for the barrel and picking up things for when I get it from PVA
NICETRY, earlier you posted you liked the RL26, except it carboned up badly
how did the 4831sc work out?
