New from West Palm, FL

There are a number of members here that are in your area. There are at least a couple options for you, but since I’m in Central Florida, I do not have the good details for you. We do get a few guys from down there that come up and shoot our long range practices and matches in Volusia, but it is a bit of a drive.

In any case, welcome to Snipers Hide!

Thanks for the info...I used to go to NSB quite a bit, my gf used to work up there from time to time. Do you have a website for the range?

New to long range shooting. Looking for clubs or areas to shoot beyond 100 yards!

The ONLY rifle range that I'm aware of in PBC is the PBSO training range. It's open to the public one or two weekends per month. They have two ranges. One is a 50 yard range. The other is a variable-distance range (100 / 200 / 300 yards). So, on the weekend that it's open to the public (Sat / Sun), the 50-yard range is open both days. The other range is set at 100 yards on Saturday and 200 yards on Sunday. Every quarter (3 months), they move the line to 300 yards on Sunday.

The PBSO range is actually pretty nice. The RSOs (PBSO officers) are very nice and run a good, safe show. It's usually not very crowded, as I think it's a somewhat well-kept "secret." And, I suspect, the LE presence keeps the "riff-raff" away. Most of the shooters that show up are long-time regulars. So, it's almost like a private club. :)

The Florida Wildlife Commission has been "building" a new public range near J.W. Corbett Wildlife Management Area and Everglades Youth Conservation Center Camp.... for some 7 or 8 YEARS. It's been through many, many delays. When it FINALLY opens (if ever), the PBSO range will no longer be open to the public. The planned range will go up to 300 yards for rifles.

Otherwise, you have to go outside PBC. There are some ranges in Okeechobee (Okeechobee Shooting Sports and the OK Corral). I've been to Okeechobee Shooting Sports a few times. Nice range. There's a private range out there that goes to 1,000 yards (Hollywood Tactical). Been there once. But, Okeechobee is a bit of a drive from WPB.

I've shot some matches at Port Malabar Rifle & Pistol Club. Very nice... they have a 600-yard rifle range with electronic scoring. Very cool stuff. But, that's an even longer drive (2+ hours each way).

Down south, near Ft. Lauderdale is Markham Park. I've never heard ANYthing good about it, so I've never been.

Even farther away... There's also a private range / club in Orlando: Central Florida Rifle & Pistol Club. I have a friend who is a member there, and I've been there as his guest a couple of times. Nice place. I think their longest rifle range is 300 yards.

But, yeah... we don't have much here in PBC.

Welcome to "The Hide." I'm fairly new here, too. I would HIGHLY recommend joining the "Online Training" sub-forum. It's only $15 / month. There are dozens of training videos there, which are well-produced and very informative. You can cancel at any time. I binge-watched over 40 of them in just 2 weeks time! Information overload! I'll likely watch many of them again. :)

Thanks for the info! I’ve been to a few of those ranges. Markham Park is a regular for me bc its about 30 mins from me. It blows so don’t waste your time. I went to the new FWC range the other day and the bathroom is almost done. Apparently that’s been the hold up. The ranges have been done. Fingers crossed that they open soon. It’ll be really nice to have something half way decent close to us.

Again, thanks for all the info. I’m going to sign up for the online training, didn’t even know about that! ??

I’d love to have some regulars from this way to train with...

I go to PBSO almost every time they're open. I hope that the new FWC range is:

1. Open during the week (at least on Fridays).

2. Run well (safely but with RSOs that aren't jerks - like I've heard about Markham). The RSOs at PBSO are really, really nice guys. They run a SAFE range. But, they're just very nice / cool guys, in my experience. I'm actually going to miss that place when they close it (when FWC shooting park opens). It really is like a private club. The only downside is that they're open only one or two weekends per month.

3. Not overrun by "riff-raff" - like I've heard about Markham.

I'll make a run to the FWC range tomorrow. Last time I was there, the ranges were overgrown with brush.

Yea I hear ya. I’m not sure about operating hours but I agree. Hopefully they are open most days. I’ll have to make the next Pbso range day....

As far as Markham Park is concerned, everything you said is accurate. I have found, however, if you know range etiquette then you’ll be fine. A lot of regulars but they are overboard with safety. I’m all for a “safe” enviorment but they take it to another level.

Do you happen to know when the next range day is at Pbso?

Next Saturday. For some reason, it's just one day (Sat) next weekend. But, two weeks after that, they'll be open for Sat / Sun.

Here's their calendar: http://discover.pbcgov.org/fdo/PDF/ShootingRange/RangeBrochure.pdf

Here's their website. If you go, download the forms first and fill them out at home. It will save you a bunch of time. The links to all the forms are on the right side of the page:

Awesome, thanks a lot,
