You make an excellent point, although I think everyone is well aware of the conundrum that this all presents. The Schadenfreude comes from the proof that, as they say, the left always eat their own. They fire their cannons so indiscriminately and with so little forethought that it's only satisfying to see them fall to their own fire.
As you pointed out, the right does not enjoy that protection so nothing has really changed for them. Watching the left get caught in their own webs would hopefully teach them a lesson in unintended consequences. But then if that was a lesson they could learn they wouldn't be on the left.
