I'm actually speechless.

i watched him on Joe Rogan's podcast light night.

actually pretty interesting stuff.

i'm not saying i agree with everything he said - nor do i necessarily think all of his ideas are good or will work. but it was an interesting conversation..

worth a listen, explaining WHY and how it's supposed to work and all the details

Here's how it works for the majority who receives it:

"Now I don't have to work as much--or at all--and can spend that time with ganja and knocking up like minded women."
Also, you've just added untold millions to the drug trade.

who can live off 12k a year? it's not supposed to be meant as a sole income for anybody

and if you are already receiving government benefits then you don't get the full $1000.

I know of a few unemployed people holding cardboard signs saying will work for food (not) that claim to make upwards of $40k a year (including the free medical benefits). All of it undeclared or untraceable. This is going to incentivize them?

ONE OF the major point behind this guys idea is a way to help/support all the people that are about to lose their jobs to AI/Robots in the next 6-10 years.

truck drivers
cashiers
clerical/administrative positions
etc
etc
anything that can be automated and replaced by a computer.

sounds crazy.

but it's already happening.

You are correct, of course. I should hear it out before relying on the entertainment news organizations. As gun owners we know how factual and accurate they are. I think it was the last couple of paragraphs that really dropped my jaw.

Still in the African river,

How would this effect people who pay no taxes but get 10k on their tax return?

I think the efficacy of a lot of this automation is greatly overstated.

Well, if billionaires want to give their money away this way... that is what the American system intended! Charity, not socialism.

The problem is that noone wants to do charity a-la-Rockefellers and Vanderbilts any more... because they are already taxed so much that they feel no need to start universities, donate thousands of libraries, build national parks, etc.

This guy should be setting a trend! That trend is that people with billions... should be giving it away. Not having it extorted from them by a corrupt socialist government... that will just waste it (while becoming rich themselves.)

How many millionaire Senators and Congressmen are there? How many were multi-millionaires when they started.

Seeing the problem?

Cheers,

Sirhr

They just did this in Finland or one of the other Scandanavian countries and it failed.

The idea was the basic income would relieve enough stress that the person getting it would find a job.

Shocking! No one got a job.

I think they were giving $2500 a month or something like that.

People dont just need a basic income they need a "purpose".

Rational, healthy people like to contribute in some way and feel responsible for their own lives.

A basic income is acknowledgement that you are useless and exist only at the largesse of the public treasury.

It does not bode well for an ordered society.

Its the dystopian world of the tyrant.

I guess all the wagon wheel makers, saddle makers, horse shoers, vehicle gps manufacturers, alarm clock makers, etc all starved or turned to a life of crime?

Ok. Census says roughly 250million people over 18 in the U.S.
Multiply that times $1000. As someone earlier did, X 12. Gets big real fast as I don’t believe he specifies what age it ends? (Unfortunately, it sounds like a shitty Social Security Check for all and look how well that’s going)
22 trillion deficit now. Try this dumb shit and see what it does. Just read the economic history of Argentina for a clue.
When will people figure out there’s no free lunch? Idiots.
