She got complacent because he looked like a drunk illegal.. she was probably thinking about all the paperwork involved if she has to arrest a illegal. I’m gonna step out on a limb though and say she is not gonna make that mistake again.
I would say her camera was looking where she was not. Obvious as hell that he reached for something under the seat, before she even walked around the car.

She did a great job staying calm, I don’t know why I always notice and question it but why does every cop shooting invlove the cop emptying there mag? I never understand this. I realize it’s probably better it they can’t talk but does it really take 15 or 16 shots to stop them?

I didnt watch this video, yet, but in most shootings by the time they pull the trigger to when they are done its like 1.5-2 seconds. This is based on reaction times and how your brain functions. I believe it was Massad Ayoub who said a trained shooter can shoot like 3-5 rounds a second, so its not out of the ordinary for somebody in a shooting to shoot between 6 and 10 rounds. The article I read was talking about a guy who was a master class IPSC or IDPA shooter who shot a guy who was assaulting him and the DA was going after him because "he shot the guy in the back" and Massad Ayoub was the expert witness and explained reaction times and what not. In this case by the time the guy realized the other guy had turned he had already shot him in the back like 4 times and stopped shooting.
Some people are very good at accurately reading and analyzing the subtle signs given off by someone when they are up to no good. Reality based defensive training most definitely helps you acquire this important survival skill, but some people just happen to be naturally more wary than others. For them it could have been honed over time from a history of playing fine-motor skills sports such as tennis or fencing. Whatever it may be, it was this constant awareness and ability to act upon instinct without "freezing" that saved this cop. Definitely a good shoot.

As we can see from this video, the body cam footage instantly proved that the officer was in the right, and was clearly justified in using lethal force against that SOB. Body cameras save a lot of resources from being spent in time consuming investigations, forensics, and cross examination of witness testimonies. Instead, these resources can be used to help police departments focus on solving violent crimes and catching shitbags who try to flee after committing violent acts.

Traffic stops, especially fugitive / license plate match stops, are where officers tend to be at their most vulnerable...Because there is simply no way to tell if the person has pulled over and stopped in compliance, or they have another agenda already thought out.

Something that never gets pointed out, and is dramatically shown in this vid. You see how easy a right handed shooter(which most are) can get the gun up and shot off when you’re standing in the V of the driver door? Now imagine him trying that if she’d been on the passenger side, and how far he has to swing to point at her. The passenger headrests would also prevent him from shooting effectively at anything to the rear of the B-Pillar. Even if a bad guy is a lefty, it’s not going to be a contact shot like it is with a righty from the driver side. Wasn’t the view much better when she was on the passenger side? I think so! Not to mention it’s way easier to watch traffic, and you have a physical barrier between traffic or the bad guy if things go badly in either direction. As a department, we always do passenger side approaches. Yes sometimes you need to go to the driver side, but only if the guy is so hammered he’s going to fall into traffic, or you suspect he might footbail. On night stops, you can almost always make it to the passenger door and gaze in as the driver is looking out the left side mirror waiting for you to show up at the driver door. I end up having to knock on the passenger window to get their attention.

Concur. Here in California, and also in Wyoming, I've had encounters with police via a traffic stop. Both times they approached the vehicle on the passenger side and stayed on that side when discussing the stop (and no, I didn't get a ticket either time). Seems prudent to me to always stand on the passenger side when ever possible.

She definitely could have been more on the ball with his reaching. Imo even before that he was moving his hands way too much and probably testing her body language to see how close to that line he could get before going for it.

Won't get that from me and everyone knows how I feel about LE in general, but that guy fired the first shot and I don't care if it's a cop or someone like me, you fire a round at my head and all bets are off and you were a threat to my life and you will continue to be one unless are no longer moving either alive or dead.
She handled herself well. Monday mornings quarterbacking, she should’ve seen the hand drop and should’ve handled business before calling it on the radio. Not necessarily a bad thing but I’d rather focus on the threat then call it in than die with a radio in my hand. Again, she did very well in a crappy situation.
