Have we talked reparations yet?

In order to convince people that the war was needed and have families killing families it could not have been hung on the real reason for the war, which was economics. Some over riding social value had to be used to justify the action.

Exactly, because as bad as Slavery was, it was already on it's death bed around the world and without the Civil War, most likely slavery would have ended about 10 to 20 years later due to dying out from it's own evil. (It died out pretty much around the entire western world around the same 50 year stretch).

But then we wouldn't have been able to place race hatred politics so well for the next 200 years would we have??

I think economics certainly played a roll.

Cant fund the factories in Lowell MA if they have to pay full price for cotton and if those pesky southerners ever decide to build a manufacturing base it would be the end of Norther Factories competing with their "free" labor.

Still though, slavery was that thing they went to war on.

Slaves were the "property" investment many Southern families had of value. They were not willing to have their "property" released leaving them financially at a loss.

Lincoln should have paid twice the value of each slave and freed them through purchase. would have been cheaper than the cost of the war.

Heard yesterday India had slavery of some sorts until 1974.

Russia also ended slavery in 1865.

Thing about many of these other cultures it was their own kind that was enslaved.

Saudi Arabia currently practices a form of slavery.

Economics was the PRIMARY role for the war, pure and simple. 85% of the US's gross domestic product was coming out of the Southern states. When the South wanted to secede the North saw that their great empire was going to crumble. The North and Lincoln latched onto the ONLY thing that could have made the populace agree to a war between the states. At that point slavery was already dying in the South, just not as quickly as the warmongers liked.

I am not saying slavery was a good thing, not at all, but history has gotten very murky over the years since the War of Northern Aggression.

Sorry to deviate from the topic of the thread.

Congress has a long history of paying out money to correct presumed past wrongs. A lawsuit brought on behalf of 16,000 Black farmers in 1997 who may have been discriminated by the USDA for farm loans, paid out in 1999. Then Obama signed a bill in 2010 that paid out 1.25 billion dollars to approximately 40, 000 Black farmers or their estates in 2013.

In 2017 another 1 billion dollars for those that missed the deadlines on the earlier settlements started its way. Last I heard USDA was trying to block it.

Slavery reparations will be another endless round of payments and claims as new players find they can get something out of it. Both politically and financially.
I was forced to be a tax slave to this B/S system all my life, where is my money???

I think it has something to do with ‘institutional racism’, or ‘white privilege’.
Either way, if you have to ask, your a racist.

This is the outrage du journal in Boston today.

The real racists are those that view everything through a racial lens and claim racism.

They see offense where their is none than demand contrition from the innocent.

Al Sharpton made a career out of it, didn't pay taxes but made a full buck.

TD North will pay for this.

Yes but they seceded over slavery in the literature.

Slavery was part of the economics.

It was also a fact and convenient reason.

You are right it wasn't "just" slavery but it was also about slavery.

the only people that should be paying reparations is the Democrat Party, they are pretty much fully responsible for it after our founding as a country... it is now a private organization... black Americans that give a shit about this (which I think is a very small number) should sue the dem party for reparations like the Holocaust survivors did to the banks in Switzerland and in NYC.

Again Gents, keep your eye on the evil ones that bring this shit up,,, they are using empathy and pure emotion to cause a wedge between us clear seeing Americans,,,,, they are afraid they will be bought to real justice soon and want to keep us divided...

Every working person in America should fill out a new W-4 form and claim tax-exempt if they try to pull this shit and tell their employer if they take any taxes out of their pay they will not show up for work. Oh and then when the IRS comes knocking tell them to go fuck themselves.

Yes, slavery was mentioned as a states rights issue but the reality was that the North pushed for the war because of economics, not because the gave a rats ass about the slaves.

Finally someone that knows true history, not the trumped up shit the taught in schools for 100's of years. Lincon was not a hero as was taught to the sheep, he was just another money grubbing lying POS who tried to subvert his true intent by making people believe it was about slaves. It was about tax money an nothing more. The reason it was dubbed "The War of Northern Aggression".

Will reparations make them honest, moral and 25 IQ points smarter? If not, will it make them go back to swinging from their own trees? What's the selling point here?

Ring that bell..
Shout for joy...

Anyone paid reparations will renounce citizenshio and is relocated to Liberia. So that they can be repatriated with thier slave ancestors.

And the Americo-Liberians that did go back basically treated the locals like shit up until Sgt Doe lined them up against some palm trees on the beach and executed them.

and than in typical continental fashion Doe was killed by Massachusetts resident Charles Taylor and even crazier local Prince Johnson

and than in typical continental fashion I understand the Americo-Liberians are back in charge.

finger snap handshake to that mess.

How about give us either our fair representation OR all our federal taxes back going back 50 years?

Edit: With interest and penalties.

Then we can talk about cockamamie ideas.

My Great Great Great Grandfather was in the Ohio Cavalry. His unit was captured at Robbinsville, Tn., and he subsequently died in Andersonville Prison. I figure had he not gone fighting to free the slaves, he would have lived, and amassed a giant fortune that today would put him up there with the like of Bill Gates or Robert Kraft. I feel I should be reparated...….

My parents both came from Canada mid 60s.

I guess they took the seat of some draft dodger heading to Canada.

What would be my share?

Is it reparations or "taking money from people because of race?

your a fucking Canadian,,,, i knew something wasn't quit right :)

Yep both parents swam across the border in the mid 60s one from PEI and the other from Cape Breton. Dad died a Canuck, Mom was Galvanized and is now a hard core Trump supporter.

Im a 14th Amendment American due to Moms water breaking in of all places Cambridge during a snow storm as Im reminded every birthday.

One of my best .mil experiences was standing Post One at US Embassy Ottawa as a TDY so the Detachment Marines could all attend the Ball.

Date was Nov. 90 Gulf War I was ramping up.

Kid came in wanting to renounce his US citizenship. He was a dual citizenship holder just like me but based on attire alone obviously not.

"So Sorry. The Embassy is closed. You will have to come back during regular business hours".

I gave him at least 48 more hours of being American.

People would risk their lives for one hour of that.

Who knew I was so generous.

I hope he changed his mind and all he remembers is that someone in dress blues kept his life worth living.
