MDT mags jamming first round?

Just got 2 MDT 10 round mags for my .308 in a magpul Pro 700 chassis. No matter how many rounds I load into the mag, the first round tends to jam as I try to feed it into the chamber. Pretty new to all of this PRS stuff, so I was wondering if anybody here has had the same problem. If so, is there a fix for it?

Thanks in advance!

Here is a pic of the nose of the round. There is an indentation maybe 2 mm from the tip on top of the bullet and then the hollow point part gets mangled. And I didn’t use much in the way of force trying to get it to feed...

when it jams - is the round nose up high? or nose diving and catching on the feed ramps? or what. pic of a round in the jammed position would be helpful

a lot of times you need to mess with the feed lips on a metal magazine.

you can get away with just using some pliers with electrical type to protect the metal. but it's really best to get a feed lip tool like MDT sells.

you spread the feed lips out a touch and it allows the round to start kicking up sooner and into the chamber

After the first round they feed fine though

Awesome. I will go ahead and order one. Thanks so much!

yeah it's weird that it only happens on the first round regardless of how many you have loaded.

disclaimer - adjusting the feed lips is a possible solutions - but may not be what it is. but it's a place to start. plus having the tool in your toolbox will be worth it in the future regardless.

good luck. if you figure it out - report back

maybe others will have better suggestions.

Thanks for the tag and it looks like there could be a couple things going on here:
1 - the tip of the fist round is catching under the feed ramp and causing it to snag (although under live fire this could happen to any of the subsequent rounds as they shift under recoil).
2 - the magazine latch in the chassis is too low, causing the first round to crash into the bottom of the feed ramp (although you'd most likely have this same issue with some of the subsequent rounds)
3 - The top round is "nosing down" in the magazine due to a couple factors. 308's in R700's are one of the most forgiving combination for magazines/feeding, so I would agree with @hookedonbrass and just open the front of the feedlips a touch, so that the tip of the first round sits higher :)

Let me know if you have more questions or need some specifics!

Thank you Josh. I appreciate the input. I will start with the feed lips and go from there and report back on what I find.
