I’m stuck in the VA hospital for a week and have fuckall to do, so I’m looking for experiences with the Mark 8 3.5-25 w/M5C2 turrets, non illum. Don’t give two screen door shits about the reticle options, just the glass, tracking, turrets, quirks, problems, etc.

Specifically comparisons, personal opinions based on use, etc. Looked around, didn’t see much. Trying to make an informed decision and haven’t been able to find one to look through or anything. If you’ve used one I’d like to hear about it, good or bad.

Good scopes, expensive but with a mil discount or used they can be had like 40-60% cheaper than retail. Glass is exceptional in them.

They do have a great mil discount program, I sure wouldn’t pay what they’re asking for MSRP, but the discount is substantial and I’ve had nothing but good luck with MK4’s in the past. Awesome to hear about the glass.

I’ve only looked through one briefly but thought the glass was incredible.

That’s great to hear, I’ve heard that about them and it’s a big selling point for me.

Thanks for the replies folks!

There is a reason you don't see many seasoned and experienced shooters rocking one, despite being the flagship of one of the biggest and most reconized optics companies in the world.

My buddy has one but his brother works for Leupold and he paid like $800 for it. Great glass, solid scope but stupid expensive and shitty reticles make it a no go.

There are just to many good high end optics out there to really consider one unless you are getting it for 1/3 or 1/2 of the street price.

I like mine a lot. It sits on top of a Larue OBR and I feel it complements it well. A lot of scopes sat on that OBR until I finally settled on the Mk8.

Tracks true. Excellent zero stop locking turret. Good turret feel.

Optically it can hang with the best of them.

The only con if you can call it one is when you look through the scope, the image has more of a ring around it. So it feels more like you’re looking through a tube as opposed to say, a Razor Gen II where there the sight picture looks more like it’s floating on the air.

Having said that, their reticle selection isn’t that great. If you like H59 though, it’s a great optic. I chose it over a Schmidt 5-25 for the field of view on the bottom end.

I’m one of those weirdos that still likes the TMR. I used one 10+ years ago and still like it. I have no use for the tree reticles to be honest.

Thank you for sharing your experiences with it, the FOV and low end are big positives for me. Where I shoot and hunt, it’s not exactly wide open, and depth of field makes or breaks it a lot of the time. We like to set up in the bottoms and ridges and shoot small targets hidden up in the trees, it’s real hard to find anywhere to shoot past 5-600 around here.
