Question for all the Dallas area ELR shooters.

I’m considering moving to the Dallas area but not too happy about leaving my current shooting spot that allows me to get out to about 2.5 miles. Granted, I don’t shoot that far, but having the option is nice.

I do however want a location that I can get out to 3500 yards on a regular basis which is about the furthest I’m shooting, for now.

From what I can find, the only public range that gets even close is Triple C Range, but that only goes out to 2000yards. I have a two part question for you guys...

1.) are there other ranges in the Dallas area that I don’t know about that go further than 2000 yards?

2.) where I live now, we have BLM land that is open to target shooting, under the right conditions. From what I can tell, Texas doesn't have much BLM land and it would be difficult to find land that is similar to what I am experienced with. Does something similar exist is the Dallas area and is it feasible that with enough scouting, I would be able to find land outside of a public range that would allow me to get out to ELR distances?

Most Texas is private land. Triple C is the closest I know of that is considered ELR. We (private persons) have the land available to shoot at further distances. But ask the folks at Tripple C their thought on longer ranges. Few are the people that can safely shoot to 1,500. Many are those that claim mile plus precision. Case in point, watch the YouTube videos of the King of the 2 mile. Some guys bomb out at less than a mile.
Once you move here go to Tripple C. If you show that your capable of safely shooting 2,000, word will get around. Someone will find you and let you come play on private land at the stupid bullet lobbing distances we love so much. What rifle are you shooting?
Good luck, welcome to DFW.

@Yerman: I am too moving from Cali to North Louisiana, but I am definitely interested in a 3 mile range. We are shooting 1,800/2,100/2,600 yards at Southwest ULR every month.

@OLD308: I will let my buddy know, we should check the Triple C.

I don’t shoot there anymore. Haven’t in while. Great place to shoot, friendly people. Nothing against Triple C. I’ll likely go back this summer for a few matches. I just found it safer and more productive to cut a range in on the ranch.

Awesome responses guys. Thanks.

Leaving my shooting spot is one reason I have been reluctant to move. Sounds stupid but I love it so much...not ready to give it up and ranges that go to these kinds of distances are really not all that common.

I'll get settled in and head over to Triple C and start making friends.

OLD308, I might hit you up when I get there. Thanks.

Well, it took a bit longer than expected, but I'll be on my way in a couple weeks. Looking forward to trying out Triple Cs and Valdina Ranch. Valdina Ranch will probably be more of a once in a while special trip since it's so far away, but looks nice.

Wife and I will land in North Fort Worth, about an hour away from Tripple Cs. A bit further than I currently travel but should be fun even though it's only out to 2000 yards. Can't wait to get there.

You might take a look at Hawks Double mountain ranch , it is about 4.5 hrs from Dallas. They allow shooting practice with small party's of about 5-9 people. 125.00 per day . Best dang place to shoot 2 miles.

West texas is becoming a Mecca for elr. There are multiple ranches that will be holding 2+ mile matches in the next year or two. Hawks Double Mountain Ranch is the go to right now. It's incredible and the Nixon bunch are the best people. My wife and I are building a range on our 18k acres of family land about an hour from Hawks near Snyder Texas. We will have matches that go to just over 2 miles, plus we will have a few targets set up much further than 2 miles for anyone crazy enough to attempt some long shots in the insane wind out where we're at lol. We will also allow range days and private groups just like Hawks. Hawks is much nicer property than ours. They have a world class lodge and lots more. But there are other ranches that I'm working with to develop their elr ranges so they can hold matches. :)

CCC is a great spot, and there is actually an ELR series that Jay Monych has started that mirrors the Ko2M type-shooting. I believe it is ELRSO or something like that. Their matches are usually at Cresson (CCC) and although I've never been to one, I've heard good things. Call Alamo Rifles and talk to them about it. A buddy of mine (Garrett) runs the front end and can tell you all about it as can Robert (the owner).

You might also check with TACPRO shooting center in Mingus TX. They Teach a ELR class. So should have something available. Bill is a great guy to work with.

If anyone has any questions for ELRSO, I can help with any questions. My wife and I help run the fb page for ELRSO. :)

I see this is an old post but Jeremy and his staff have been on top of everything every time I have been out there. They have been updating stuff and adding shooting lanes. I just wish they would install some Air conditioned shooting boxes on the 1k range for those summer time afternoons.

I may be wrong with old info but when I had my membership there the ELR was only a class and to shoot the mile was only avail during the class. Bill is a cool guy as I have had the chance to shoot the line a few times where he was doing 1 on 1 with people out to 1K.

The standard range at TacPro is 1000 yards, however if you are doing a class with Bill, they have availability of going out to 2300 to 2500 as I recall from the last conversation I had.
