PRS Talk PRS Gas Gun

I'm pretty new as well, I did Cowtown Clash last year with loaner gear and no clue at all. But do think Gas Gun PRS stuff is where I am landing after spending some time playing several different games.

I've been following the ASAP stuff, It is very new... I don't think its completely outlined. Eric Lee of SGT of Arms has hosted webcast discussions you can watch on his FB page.

The basic idea is to draw AR guys from the other games over to gain interest in PRS. Come run 223/556, whatever you have!
Two Divisions: 556 and everyone else.
And It most likely is in response to it not catching on as an extension of PRS.

I want to do PRS, and I want to go gas. I see a 6.5 in my future for sure.... But in the meantime, I can start learning the basics with my AR in 223.

So i think and I say I THINK that alot of local areas matches are doing Gas Gun Matches that are obviously not affiliated to PRS because the shut down that side of it this year. But that sounds about right I think some clubs try to incorporate pistol into the match as well. Sounds like a good time and fun.

We didn't have a club match scheduled for December this last Christmas so I ran a Gas Gun "Meatball" match. Lots of targets per stage, average round count per stage was 15-20. Bigger targets and faster time. People really enjoyed it. It seemed to be a good transition for the AR tactical crowd to come out and shoot distance.
I could get into that. Host one in my neck of the woods and I'll be there.

How do you all find gas gun matches? PRS gas gun series or otherwise? I guess just keep doing internet searches until a range in my area decides to host one?

The PRS dropped the gas gun series due to lack of interest. There's a few folks running them as standalone matches (I believe Arena in GA is one of them), but I am not aware of any overarching series at this point.

Ok thanks, I will look at 3GN long range, hopefully they didn't drop theirs either.

Where’s your area? I found a local one through the local long range Facebook group, and that’s how I learned to search practiscore for local matches. Have you ever used practiscore?

you can search on practiscore also, here's one coming up in penna

also, if you have ranges/clubs nearby that do 2 & 3 gun with stages that go out more than a few hundred yards, pretty similar and more prevalent. my club normally has two stages at each 2 & 3 gun match that go out to ~500yds.

The first Geissele match was a great success. There were some hiccups due to University Rifle Club no longer hosting any more matches, however New Holland Rifle and Pistol Club stepped in and helped us out. The rest of the matches this year will be at New Holland.

Saturday's match was a lot of fun, especially since Rick and other built and automated mover. It worked great until someone shot the spool it was running on. The fix was very quick.

Big thanks to Geissele for sponsoring the match. They brought triggers, handguards, scope mounts, etc. I also saw a Kahntrol cert on the table, Thank you as well. I think they are on this forum so if anyone knows their SN, please mention them.

The crowd varied from first match to relatively experienced with a gas gun. Next match is September 7 so if you're in the PA area, it may be worth looking in to.

2020 in Pennsylvania the Eastern Region of the DMR Series will be running. This Series will be connected to DMR series all along the East Coast. We currently have matches scheduled at New Holland Rifle and Pistol Club and are working on coordinating with more clubs and locations to run more matches. Currently we have one day matches scheduled but are working on coordinating to set up a two day match.

We are still running the Giessele Gas Gun Challenge. We are revamping the rules this year we are looking at modifying the Divisions and scoring to come more in line with the PRS community.

Please correct me if I’m wrong, but my understanding is that gas gun will basically be a category at PRS matches this year. So I’m aware of 3 categories now. Tactical (bolt or gas), gas gun, and other (bolt gun in a Caliber that is not tactical). Does that cover it?

The Divisions for 2020 are:

Tactical (308 & 223, bolt or gas)
Gas Gun (any caliber)
Production (with limits on MSRP for optic and rifle)
