Soooo, I'm just about to start shooting (might be tomorrow if my buddy can go).

I have a RPR in 6.5CM. I've read a bunch of things about how to properly break in a brand new rifle.

One suggested shooting a single round, then running a dry boresnake through it, then another round, boresnake, etc. for the first 10 rounds, then a boresnake every 2 rounds for another 10, then 4, then 8, etc.

Another said fire five rounds, then lightly oil the inside.

Yet another said don't bother with it at all. Just shoot normally, then clean at the end.

I bought a boresnake, not a rod. When using a boresnake, you are supposed to put cleaner just before the bristles. How do you know when you have sufficiently cleaned the barrel?

Edit: adding proper accreditation. Thanks @TheGerman for a very useful picture.

Just shoot it.

Now about boresnakes.

They don’t belong rolling around in the bottom of your range bag. Keep it clean and in a ziploc or something where it won’t collect dirt. Don’t set it down on dirty range benches etc. Wash from time to time.

Also when pulling out through the muzzle, keep it centered. Don’t drag it to one side across your crown........

Have that same setup, not one patch or snake through it, shot 1200 rounds and it was still more consistent than me. Enjoy!
See, this is a problem. With all the sh*t you've put me through, I can't tell if you are finally trying to be helpful for once, or just being snarky.
