RCBS’s new “Chargemaster”

Interesting......

.04gr accuracy in “match mode”.

The open drain alert is handy.

I'm gonna be a little hopeful and bank on the fact that price isn't entirely accurate. maybe it's a jacked up MSRP and retail will be much less. or maybe amazon is dumb, seen it before.

gonna wait until we get some official numbers from RCBS or reliable retailers before deciding if i'm out. but yeah at $850 - i'd be out.

Dang that price is disappointing.

Really the only practical thing I can tell this does the $200 Frankford arsenal doesn’t do is .04 resolution.

That’s a big premium for a marginally better scale.

I would have thought that RCBS would be able to deliver a better product at a similar price point after all these years since the OG chargemaster.

I think it will sell for less after the hype but I won’t consider it unless in $500 territory. Just can’t justify replacing my perfectly good 7 year old chargemaster.

even if its a $100 less its still to much...old will knott has the FX120i for $600 then just add the auto trickler parts as you can afford them.

My crazy theory but nothing surprises me these days and i'm not a marketing genius:

perhaps RCBS has a large margin on them:

RCBS purposefully "leaked" it on amazon with a jacked up price. Then they will scope out the forums and judge peoples reactions and adjust accordingly and just blame it on amazon for posting a made up price. :ROFLMAO:

if everyone is still crazy about it - leave it at $850. if everyone bitches (like we are)..... drop it.

just a stupid theory that is mostly just wishful thinking and probably entirely idiotic. lol

Way over priced and why would you need an app and conectivity , Autotricker needs it because the scales are not designed for powder measuring and are a bit of a pain in the ass when it comes to load development, but old chargemaster is just fine without it.

That's a pretty hefty price tag. Maybe it uses one force restoration gauges instead of a load cell? Like the fx120. I dunno, but 850 is a no go for me. I'll save up for the auto trickler/fx120.

If it lowers the cost of the 1500 or the lite, then I'll pick up on of those. Or from someone reselling one. But definitely not getting one at $800. Maybe I'm a cheap ass, I dunno.

I've seen that sort of thing happen before. Not so idiotic.
I'd be out until the price is way down, AND the unit proves it self in reliability. I don't mind tweaking some settings, but the "straw trick", dispenser nozzles, magnetic shields, etc. etc. we do to make the chargemaster run consistently is just ridiculous. They serve well, but for an upgrade and increase in price, I'd expect an upgrade and increase in usability and stability. Not sure how that happens with TWO dispensing tubes....
Just my thoughts.

I don’t think your line of thinking is far off.

I had the same thought.

Whoever designer this as RCBS was definitely in it for the gang bang lol... more tubes dispensing sauce in the pan must be better.

RCBS isn’t even open today....
Just tried calling them.

Are they normally CLOSED on Friday, or just shutting down to monitor the market response?! ?

They completely missed the mark in this one. They should have went for the $500-$600 market. For a few hundred more bucks you get THE Gucci loader.

If they turn out to be in the 5-600 range, I'd be tempted to get a couple. At 850ish, I'd have to opt for another Autotrickler setup.

.....aren't we jumping the gun a little? No one even has one to test, and we're discrediting it already. We don't know if this is an "autotrickler v3 killer" or if it falls short. Give it a few months, in private hands for review.

And this goes for me too. But if it's half as good as it's being formatted as, I'd love to have it. My charge throw does vary, and it takes 40-50 seconds to dispense a single charge on my chargemaster lite. I like the idea of a large throw and a small throw straw. There's some really neat ideas.

No!!!! This is the internets. We judge peeps and things before we see them in real life and we rule all the world. Get out of here with that logic!

its NOT a V3 killer LOL!

This more accurate model is somewhat exiting actually. I could never understand the appeal of the Chargemaster for long range shooters, despite its popularity. I've always felt it made more sense to buy a set of Lee powder scoops and a pretty decent more accurate scale for the same price as the chargemaster.

This model actually has hope and most guys probably cant outshoot the variance.

Improving your scale’s accuracy will not automatically improve your ES.

While I kind of agree with the sentiment, I also find this to be misleading.

I had a Chargemaster for a while and decided to dump it after reviewing the actual powder charge variance to my Vibra HT balance.

I found as much as 4/10s of a grain variance in 50 thrown charges that the Chargemaster unit presented as dead on.

Looking quickly at Sirera load data for .308 Win, a 0.8 grain powder charge equates to a 50 FPS velocity change, so 4/10s equals half of that or 25 FPS velocity change. That is entirely due to powder charge variance.

If we consider the multitude of variables, we will have a velocity variance of some amount even if the powder weights are identical.

But whatever that variance is, you would have to add the 25 FPS ES to it if running the Chargemaster.

For a 300 yard varmint hunter, such a velocity spread is all but meaningless, but to a 1000 yard bench rest or F Class shooter trying to hold a 1/2 minute V Bull or X ring, a 4/10s grain powder charge variance alone will put you in the bottom half of the score board regardless of the quality of all other components in the system.

Accuracy is about statistical consistency and you cannot willfully build in inaccuracy and expect it to be washed out by the other variables. Those "flyers" are not outliers, they are statistically predictable.

Amazon link no longer working.

That’s really interesting, it must have gotten some traffic......

I’m glad I got the screenshot when I did.

Amazon prices on reloading equipment has always been all over the map, so I wouldn’t worry too much about the price shown above.

It also said it would ship in late October/November.

I’ve already been there/done that with Chargemasters so I’m not really in the market.

Hmm...., I paid $350 for my FX120i. A lot more when I added the Auto Throw /Trickler plus the 419 bling. No way I'd give it up for this scale/dispenser.

lot of hate for the obviously fake price from people who have never used it and have no clue how it compares to an fx-120i and autotrickler setup

theres no hate just ppl saying their not going to pay this much for a charge master.

You can get the FX120i brand new for $475 to your door from Canada from CE Products link directly on the Autotrickler website.

That’s what I did. Got the scale first, made a “home-made” stand to sit over the top of the scale, attached my Lee Powder Thrower to the top of the stand...it dumps into a funnel, the funnel drops through the top of the scale and into a 1 cup measuring cup, and I also have a Frankford Arsenal trickler on top of the stand that dumps into the funnel. I probably complete a charge in under 15 seconds anyways, just the filling portion, by the time I grab the cup and dump it into a piece of brass and restart the process it’s obviously more than 15 seconds. Pretty fast but not as convenient as the Autothrow/Autotrickler

thats pretty fast...i just got my V3...8-10secs ready to dump...its fast and within 1 kernel over about 800 rounds now...pretty sweet set up.

thats right and YOU do not know either so are you going to be the first to spend the $850?
they're not gonna be $850.

and no, im not. but when we have the REAL price and industry/insider reviews then we'll know. its speed and accuracy is all just a guess based on prior products right now

i hope not because they wont sell any...and yes your right it is based on prior products as is most ppl in this threads opinions about it...i dont think anyone is really bashing it just saying they wont pay that much for it

Nice. I’m gonna be ordering the V3 setup here real soon. I bought the “V3 accessory” package when I first got the scale, thinking it would ship right away. I mainly just wanted the powder cup right away. Well, that package took 2 months to ship so I went with a normal measuring cup from the kitchen for the time being.

BUT, now when I get the V3 I’ll have 2 cups, and I plan to make them the exact same weight, or as close as I can get them, and I’ll use them both. One will fill while I dump the other. My hands will be moving fast! I’m excited to try it out.

You really don't need two pans with the FX120i and AT/Trickler system. Its fast.

They always lead with full up MSRP, street prices will knock off a couple hundred for fun.

From the short video, it seems slow, but slow or not, if it actually produces accurate loads, it will be worthwhile for some guys.

Have to wait and see.

I suspect that there is room in the market for this. God bless differences in taste and opinion.

Rcbs must have hired Cambridge anaylitcal to play mind games on us. Shock us with a 850$ price tag, and when they release to public at 650$ we will all be stoked and think we're getting a deal.

Still to rich for my blood. Sub 500$ and I would probably consider it, otherwise I'll keep saving for auto trickle

I’m waiting to jump on it as soon as I get some non partial reviews. If it’s close to what they claim, I’ll be jumping on it. If not, I’ll grab the V3.
