I came across this on a recent trip to South Africa and I gotta say, it's pretty sweet. You can find them at http://triggercam.co. Apparently it was created in South Africa and is primarily marketed there though it sports a US patent. A friend of mine introduced me to it and I couldn't be stopped. Very much "a take my money" moment. I used to make a lot of videos but found them to suffer from the lack of the point of view that viewers might actually be interested in, the through the reticle shot. My website even has a blog section called Through the Reticle which was meant to show this exact sort of thing but to date never has because I hadn't found a solution this good to the video quality issue. I never really got anywhere with any through the reticle shots because the phone scope things that exist never seem to fit the phone that I have so I gave up on that. I also hated the fact of my phone's low resolution screen being the thing I'm looking through when trying to hit a long range target on film. I own expensive optics with top end glass. Why handicap my eye with an iffy phone video. That's for the people that watch my videos, not for me while I'm shooting.

It attaches easily enough with an adapter collar and the included tool's allen key bit. Video is recorded via a clever system of lenses and mirrors so you're actually looking through the thing instead of at it. Mounting is easy, slide the appropriate collar over the ocular bell and snug it up. That's all there is to it. Focusing is done via connecting to the app and spinning a little wheel that's accessed through a screw-cap covered port. The other screw cap conceals the SD card and the USB port and while it appears to be the place you'd put a CR2032 battery, it is not. The battery is internal and charges via USB.
Optically, it's quite nice. Coated optics and a good color rendition. The app was a little irritating to get to connect to the camera but I got it after a couple tries and now it just works. It would have been very nice for them to include a manual in the box but I guess they go by the same motto that I do, "A great method to pre-determine if something will work or not is to check and see if it comes with a manual." Things without manuals tend in my experience to just work.

Cost? Yeah, cost is pretty high. Almost $500 US but you're getting a heck of a gizmo. It's not ultra light but doesn't weigh enough to be a problem. It compact enough that I won't be bothered by it being on the gun. The best part for me is, I teach long range shooting now and then and now I have a way to actually see in real-time from the shooter's eye view what my students are doing. That is a fantastic diagnostic aid and I know it'll help me in that endeavor. I can usually tell what a student is buggering up by how they're failing in some exercise but sometimes it's a little tough. With reticle video that I can analyze in real time I can help fix those shooter errors early and surely. For hunting guides I see a huge use case for this not only for selecting which animal but also for seeing how steady your shooter is and tuning your hunt to get them into a range that they can accomplish a good shot in.

I'm stuck in town for a bit so rather than aim a rifle around my neighborhood, I found some video footage on gootube. I'll be taking it to my next match at the end of the month and making a video with that footage. Should be very interesting and we can all watch the match from my eye afterward.

hopefully they will start shipping internationally

So I heard back from Triggercam. They're currently building out distribution here. Estimate is a few months. Apparently I'm the first American to have one. Ahhh sigh. Always on the bleeding edge. I've been tinkering with it and have been very happy with the results. So far I've just been connecting it up to various scopes and filming my back yard but it's quick to install/remove and the app is extremely straightforward to use. I've set up a series of test protocols I will be running with it including a range visit this weekend. Expensive, yeah a bit but there's nothing else like it and honestly, we as shooters are prone to spend $500 on some inane junk so why not on a toy that's this cool?

I really like the looks/design of this. Am not a fan of my giant-ass cell phone and a bracket do-dad hanging off my scope.

How would this work on a Nightforce scope with the rotation of the "eyepiece" with magnification changes...?

I'm guessing...not well...?

i have to ask what currency is r7 ? looking for a converter and saw nothing with r7 in it .is it south African rand ?

Yep. I'm guessing if it's south African then it'll be "Rand" - the local currency.
It's annotated as "ZAR"in currency converters...?

No, you dont change magnification that often when shooting through with video

as long as it fits right, I am good

Good point... I'm also still keen to try one on my ATACR though.
Would be great to capture some stages at matches...

I am aroused. Love my PhoneScope but this kicks its ass. Live stream to my phone without having the phone on the rifle?

I'm in.

I got mine yesterday and fitted it to my Atacr. You’ll have to remove the whole flap on the eyepiece of the scope, in order for the spacer to properly fit. And yes, it tilts when changing the zoom. Of course, not a train smash as it tightens the clamp with one screw. Most guys don’t fiddle with their zoom during a match, so it may be a moot point.

It adds about an inch to your eye relief; all my rifles have adjustable LoP, so easy enough to remedy. Installation is a breeze though, so no problem switching it between scopes.

Being based in South Africa, I paid R7300 ZAR for it. With our poor local currency at the moment, it’ll cost guys in the US around $500 as stated earlier. Not sure what shipping would be, but I can’t imagine it being anywhere near $100. Best would be to contact Triggercam directly as they would probably have some plan in place for getting these shipped internationally.

I’m going to use it in a match this weekend, just for shits and giggles. Not sure how practical it’ll be but it’ll be a fun experiment in any case.

I'm interested to see how this compares to the Tactacam offerings. You know, for when I'm finally good enough to actually make shots worth recording. :ROFLMAO:

I saw a guy at a match a few months ago with this. He had nothing but good things to say about it. It looks like a solid setup. And it's available.

Yep, that's the one I was thinking of. Seen people posting up pictures and videos using it, even with NV it seems to be okay. Curious to see how OP's recommendation stacks up.

There was a company a few years back selling bullet cams with different sized rail mounts that you could align with your scope. Obviously you can't see through that type of camera so they offered a tablet-style display/battery for "through-the-scope" viewing. I think they went out of business.

Honestly, I think just about anything has to be better than the PhoneSkope-style devices.

1200 for the Torey Pines deal? I don't want to record videos that badly.

Tactacam looks interesting, looks like it gets in the way of throw levers and I can't tell how much eye relief it eats.

The Triggercam unit eats about 1" of eye relief. So far I've been having a great time with it trying to find the limits of the video capture. So far no surprises. I did find that at least 1 Primary Arms scope (which I plan on shooting in the face because it's a junk scope and I like shooting junk scopes in the face) has just the right size and shape of ocular bell to make it a pain to fit the Triggercam unit on. That's just because the illumination knob which is on the ocular bell is about .75" from the rear of the eyepiece. I couldn't get the thing positioned right to make a good fist of getting video from it. I did get some video but it wasn't right. Everything else I've put it on has worked fine. If the PA optic didn't have the illumination knob so close to the rear of the scope it wouldn't have been a problem. I suspect we'll see a V2 with some provision for dealing with that issue in the not so distant future.

Video from my last match, stage 4. I'm sure some of you shoot this match. Zip up to 1:10 to skip to the action. that's unedited, real-time with misses and all. Note, do not show your friends your unit if you get one. The first thing they'll do is stick their finger in it and give you a nice smudge smack in the middle of the video.

Great video. It's enlightening to see through someone else's scope. I wish some instructors would use this to show things like acceptable wobble from unsupported positions. Thanks for posting.

I took a Sawtooth Rifles class and Scott Satterlee did so on a TV screen while he shot

I didn't even notice the wiggle from my heartbeat while shooting. Only after I watched the video. I've been having a hard time getting beyond a particular plateau in my scores. Pretty sure being able to see my mistakes and where I'm losing time is going to help bring those up.

I'm not sure will you shoot with already but the camera will definitely give you some good feedback I would definitely find a different group of shooters outside that comfort zone if possible they're gonna see different things and challenge you in different ways

Not sure of the mechanics, but there is a button to select USD and the paypal receipt was in USD.

Looks like the FAQ still says no international shipments, but the order system definitely takes the order for a US address and payment.

Just placed order. $520.40 via Paypal. The wait begins....
USD button in upper left corner/side. Took 2 tries then it converted to US Dollars, also/then showed the Paypal login/payment window.

Tracking info indicates about a week. Of course, anything from outside the country can get hung up in customs for any random reason . . . .

I always wondered with these types of devices if people ever run into issues with the scope striking them on recoil. I mean I know for a lot of the more popular precision calibers this is probably not much of a concern because recoil is not that much, but where I see this being more appealing is for when you want to record longer ELR type shots with larger calibers. What happens when you are behind a 300WM or other LA cartridge. Is this a concern that is addressed by compromising your position for the sake of the (filmed) shot, or is this just mitigated with proper recoil management and is not really a concern.

Tactacam also has very similar product. Can get a package deal with a camera for $520-ish for just the mount for $130-ish

I free recoiled a bit later in the match and had no issues. It does eat about 1" of eye relief so if you're close to getting scoped as it is, you'll want to push the optic forward an inch. Those shooting really hard kickers will want to more aggressively manage recoil than they otherwise might but even on a 300wm, if it's set up decently to begin with, shouldn't be an issue. I'm sending mine to a buddy who's going on a hunt in a couple weeks. They'll be using lighter, harder kicking rifles than I use in matches so we'll have some video of that pretty soon too and a little intel on how harder kicking guns behave.

I may have missed it, but I don’t think Tactacam has any “through the scope” cameras. I have their product from last year, and while it does what they say it does, having a picatinny mounted camera just doesn’t give the same context, or make the same use of the scope’s magnification, as one that looks through the scope.

How would this be any better than an adapter to use a phone?

I get it is more streamlined and maybe a bit better built but for $400+ difference it just doesn’t impress me.

Yes, they call it FTS - film through scope. Can buy just the mount if you already have a Tactacam camera
