Savage teams up with MDT

Dang, that is pretty badass. Also, this will put the ACC chassis into stock class. That is insane. That is a very compelling setup. When are these going to be in stores?

Awesome. Looks like another rifle for me to look into for my new 338LM :)
 
Ive seen a review on the .22 semi auto model.
The rifle came out of the factory missing a spring so it fired on taking the safety off as well as having severe magazine feeding issues whilst also having the accuracy of a shot gun.....

For me, Savage misses the mark too often to trust them with my money even when teamed up with MDT.
It’s a real shame as the rifles I have owned have all been very accurate.
 
I don't know why, but i kind of like the gold bolt. I wonder how smooth it runs. Does it feel better than a normal Savage, or Remington?
 
I'm not a fan of chassis rifles but that's just my opinion. Nothing wrong with them, I just don't like them. Now, that said this is just putting lipstick on a pig. Savage sucks, the only way to make them better is to throw them in the trash and buy an M700 or clone.

I have a couple old hunting savages my dad passed down to me from the 90s and they are all actually great shooters.

I have a 200th anniversary M700 and other than the nice piece of walnut that the stock is carved from it is a royal piece of shit, Remington as a company and their QC have been on the decline for some years now and Savage adapts to new cartridges and stock/chassis options faster than any other company out there. Bitch all you like, it just makes you look silly

the coating makes it very smooth by comparison. knowing these will go for below retail, unlike every other $2k production gun, they do offer a lot and the brand recognition for a lot of the hunter types will help compared to PVA/etc where people can go into a shop and play with these relatively easily

as far as LOP. knowing how far back these go i'm guessing MDT had everything tooled up well before they realized their LOP was way too long
 
Love my savage. One in 243 was my first precision bolt action rifle and with 30 rounds of load development I had bug holes at 100 yards and 6 inch 5 round groups at 850 yards with no wind.

I'll probably just stick with building from now on but this is really cool. As others have said I don't get the 1:9 twist in 223. Also trigger tech is better than accutrigger but a shooter can get used to anything that is decent and it is a little better than decent imo.

They should’ve gone with a 1:7 for that style of rifle, or 1:8 at the absolute slowest.

I have always liked the RPR as a nice, turn-key, entry level rifle. Although this will be slightly more expensive, I think this could become the go to rifle for people starting out.
I think they could probably drop the 308 and 300 win mag chamberings, though. I get 223 as a trainer, i get 338 for ELR, and obviously the two 2 creedmoors make sense, but i just don't see the first two catching fire. Maybe they are going to go after some LE or MIL contracts?

Either way, this is a great addition to the marketplace.

You might be surprised how many people buy .308 or 300 WM for their first rifle. All sorts of reasons for this, but I’d bet that sales on those calibers would surprise you.

My first 2 LR rigs were Savages. I lost my shirt when I sold them. That was an expensive lesson for me. They were accurate enough early, but had extraction issues and super heavy bolt lifts.

I’ll never own another savage, but I’m glad that there are all these options out there. Makes for a good, competitive market for the consumers!

I gave them a call today and they said the rest of the calibers will be listed about December. They also said thats about the time the current ones listed on the website should start shipping. They are getting orders already

I too run an AI. I have had a few Savages over the years. They were all quite accurate. I’m planning to pick up a 300PRC sometime next year. I won’t be able to stretch it out as much as I’d like so It doesn’t make sense for me to spend AXMC money on one. This is a very interesting option to me. However the accutrigger would have to go.

I wonder what they do to “blueprint” the action.
