Just ran to the store and noticed my check engine light on and my oil pressure gauge pegged at 80 psi on my 2013, 5.3 liter chev. any ideas? Not making any noise.

The other possible problem is a clogged filter forcing the bypass valve open.
I have news for you. Other than at idle the oil filter bypass is almost always open a little to alot. 100% of the oil does not get filtered 100% of the time.
Now he could have an oil pressure regulator stuck closed, but 99.9999999% of the time they fail open.
The gauge is pegged even with the engine not running(key in accessory mode) so I'm thinking a bad sensor.
That’s a tell tale sign of failed oil pressure sending unit. Gen 3 SBCs have those on the top of the block just behind the rear of the intake manifold. It’s a fairly quick job to DYI...
My wife would just put tape over the gauge. If it started making noise, she would turn up the radio. In about a week she would just say 'oh yea, it's been doing that for a while'.
There is a small screen filter just below the sensor. If you can, inspect it to check for trash and replace if needed. It is just wedged in so a small pick will pull it out. It's another small detail to check to prevent blowing out the new sensor.
