Rifle Scopes Eotech Vudu durability ?

Just eye-balling it across my property, it looks pretty good. The illumination is worthless during the day, but I knew that going in. Chromatic Aberration and crappy Illumination were the two knocks on it. Not seeing the CA, but haven't mounted it yet or shot it in high sunlight. Time will tell ...

I am known for being tough on gear by virtue of clumsiness or just plain getting after it while training so durability is a priority for my gear. I recently purchased the 5-25 for my piston/gas gun (PWS Mk218 in 6.5) which won't be a safe queen. I decided to keep the 5-25 because it felt solid compared to several other scopes I considered. I have always been impressed with the durability of Eotech holo sights and this scope feels like it's of a similar build quality. (I know, different factory, but the manufacturer chooses the specs right?) While it might not be an ATACR, I expect it to hold up well and to be honest, I could buy two Vudus for the price of one NF.

I have been messing with a Vudu 5-25x50 for the better part of 2019 and I have had exactly zero issue with it. I have not tried to break it, but I have not been babying it either.

I am not crazy about the image quality above 20x, but it is quiter serviceable and downright very good between 5x and 20x. Mine is the MD3 reticle version and the overall package works exceedingly well.

Took my new Vudu 5-25x50 out for it's first range trip on a new .224 Valkyrie build, and it was impressive. Combo of a quality rifle (Bushmaster lower / White Oak Armament 22" 6.5-twist Upper) and this scope shot "lights-out" ... half-MOA right out of the box after just a quick scope-zero and barrel break-in. I've decided I really like this scope, and the illuminated center dot is way more daytime-useful than I thought it would be. Bright sunny day, and only a tiny hint of CA at the highest magnification ... shot most of the trip at 18x-ish and it was optically sound. Illumination and CA were my only concerns, and they turned out to be non-issues. The rest of the scope features are awesome, and the smaller form-factor is perfect for a long distance gas-gun ... like a .224 Valkyrie, 6.5 Grendel, etc. Bottom Line: This EOTECH Vudu 5-25x50 is a "Keeper". (That sigh of relief you hear ... is the "Returns" department at BigDaddyUnliminted.)

I'd have to rate it as "Good Enough" ... at least for me. Haven't found a high-magnification scope yet that had an eye-box at 18x or above that I thought was actually "Really Good". The one exception is my Leupold Mark 5 HD 3.6-18x44 ... that has an eye-box I'd rate as "Shockingly Good".
I was very sceptical about the eyebox at first. The more time I spend behind the scope however the better I feel about it. I agree about the illumination, that center dot works great for me even in the daytime, especially since I've come from spending a decent amount of time behind non-magnified red dots on pistols and carbines. I think some people are looking for a really bright dot/reticle when they complain about the illumination. It's not super bright but I was always trained to turn the red dots down to a just barely visible level so maybe I'm just used to it. I wanted illumination and the high cost of illumination on the Mark 5s is what actually steered me away to the Vudu.

My illuminated Mark 5 was all of $600 more expensive than the Vudu 5-25x50 for 7x less magnification. Decided to roll the less expensive dice for the Vudu and see if it worked. Glad I did.

Do these scopes tunnel at all? I'm interested in the 3.5-18 version specifically.

Only point of reference I have is an NXS 3.5-15 F1 that I had. It was a great scope but with the way it tunneled, I didn't see any need for using magnification less than 5x or so, which really made it a 5-15x scope. Not terrible, not great. On the other hand, my MK5 5-25 (current scope) has a reticle that is fairly thin and besides the center, is not usable under 7x. Not as much of an issue as the tunneling because my eyes are good enough for the thin reticle but still something I've noted.

I have not observed any tunneling with my 5-25. I know its not the 3.5-18 but maybe someone who owns one will chime in. I have the H59 reticle and have seen a few complaints that the reticle is "thick" in this scope. The slightly "thick" reticle in the Vudu makes it usable at every range, which was actually a selling point for me. The center dot is the perfect size. I can't remember the exact figure but I really like it, especially with illumination. I was contemplating the Mark 5 5-25 but the cost of illumination threw me off and I also noticed that the reticle was really tough to discern at 5x-7x. I really wanted the Mark 5 but I don't regret my choice at all, especially when it saved me $1000.

Thanks Zero. I wasn't concerned with illumination and my Mark 5 is more for precision shooting so the thin reticle was a plus. But one size does not fit all. As this would be for a gas gun, I think the thick reticle would be a better option. FOV is needed on a gasser and that was my biggest complaint with the NXS. Everything else about the scope was bombproof.

Not that I've ever noticed ... shot mine this morning with great results and tight groups.
