Im looking for an excuse to get another...absolutely love my 42. For the cheek spacers a guy could get one 3D printed to a specific size. Might be a little cheaper.

I have a TRG-22 .308 26" barrel. It is one of my favorites and very precise. It's also less expensive than my AIAT and GAP.

Still among the best. You simply can’t go wrong. Perhaps the best out-of-the-box rifle ever. Certainly in top 5.

They are not cheap, but lots of good deals out there on low-round-count rifles. And by the time you finish building something that shoots as well, the Sakomwill seem like a bargain!

Wish it was a 26 inch barrel but 20 will do. My club range only goes to 800 yards. I’ll give up some velocity but drop weight. Bare rifle is only 10 lbs or so. I’ll drop a NF 5.5 - 22x 50mm on it for a few lbs or an NF older NF Competition 12-42x56. Probably don’t need a 20MOA rail.

I would suggest going with a NEAR Mfg 20-moa base. They are the cats meow. You can't find a better product.

I had one on the past and totally agree (Spuhr though, neck and neck).

Looks like a 20 inch barrel? What bipod mount? Looks like Atlas bipod. TNX

Yes, 20" barrel. The bipod spigot mount is a B&T (Atlas) BT21.

I also have one with 26" barrel that I'm thinking about have it chambered in 7 SAW.

I love my TRG22. I wanted a 26" 260 but had to settle for the 308 in 26". By far my favorite rifle to shoot. So much so, I need to sell the ones I don't shoot. I really like the factory bipod, probably one of the best, most well built, and useful bipods ever made.

I’m pretty sure it will fit the trg because the base looks very similar, but I’ve got a 20 moa rail from my sotic that’s been collecting dust

Well, I’d like to find the bipod, another magazine or two and the brake. I hope I made the right decision as I’m at custom level now ?

I'm not so sure extra magazine is really necessary. I'd rather have the single round feed made by Terje.

Ever wonder why so many actions are mimic-ing the bolt lugs, the extractor, the flat bottom, the.... well, you will know after your first range trip. The trigger is phenomenal- you will be forever "ruined". And I'll wager your Sako barrel will outlive any US barrel in accurate round count if they haven't changed their barrel supplier in recent history- so you are in fact ahead of any custom when you look at all the features/$!

What about the TRG-22 ($3,000) would warrant it over a Tikka T3 with the KRG Bravo, KRG, Midas trigger, and a pre-fit barrel (Total around $2,100), besides the shorter bolt throw?

This is what I have been told.

I understand they are not the same. I guess I'll find out. Thankfully I got to hold one in a LGS recently.

Understand they are not the same, just looking at what justifies a TRG over a Tikka as Tikkas can sometimes be referred to as a "poor mans TRG".

I believe mine will come with a Picatinny Rail. I have NF rings and will probably only shoot at the club 800 yard range. My NF should have enough adjustment. Thank You for the input, it is appreciated. I understand a company in Canada named Near makes a great rail to boot.

I have the Spuhr ST-3701 (my scope tube is 30mm) and the Sako S5740412 Muzzle Brake (this reduced recoil quite a bit, not that the 6.5 CM had heavy recoil)

By the way... the Spuhr mount that I have mounts directly to the rifle dovetail, I had to remove the rail that came with the rifle.

The KRG trigger doesn’t hold a candle to the TRG trigger, at least the pre 2013 models. I understand the newer models are not as adjustable or can’t tune them as light as the older triggers. I’m a fan of light triggers and have my TRG 42 around a pound. Bought the KRG trigger for my tikka and sent it back. The lightened spring in the factory trigger was more appealing to me. So if looking to build a budget trg replica I would opt for getting the $10 spring and use the factory trigger over the KRG one.

Sorry for jumping in on your topic here, but I figure it might fit...I’ve always wanted a trg but haven’t pulled the trigger on one because of barrel changes...
I just don’t read about people doing it like some of the other actions...say customs, AI, etc.
I jumped on a bighorn tl3 for my first rifle build because of that reason, but still can’t help lusting for a trg.
Is it something trg owners are doing now themselves easily or do most have a smith do trg changes?

KRG is selling a barrels and barrel nut. With their action wrench and good barrel vice replacing a barrel on a TRG is easy. I had no trouble setting the head space with go/no go gauges.

If you want a caliber that KRG does not offer they will give you the thread specifications to give you a barrel maker or gunsmith.

I have both with the Tikka in the exact same configuration as you mention. The poor mans TRG still isn't as nice as the TRG. For me, it isn't as nice a bolt throw and the trigger still is not as nice as the TRG trigger. I even got the Sterk to make the first TRG bolt shroud for mine. Close but no cigar.

Yep. Basically the TRG is the beefy older brother meant for military use in demanding conditions.

Could be compared to what the Accuracy International AE was to the AW. A worker, but not nearly as "hardened" for abusive field use.

I spoiled myself by getting a TRG as my first precision rifle. At the time you couldn’t build your own semi-custom with a premium barrel action and chassis systems were in their infancy. Options here AI, TRG, or full house custom build. I chose TRG and have no regrets.

Hmm, maybe I should reconsider the TRG then. Seems solid for 3k. The price of the mags kills me though.

Anybody have a TRG-22 near Alabama they would let me try out? I’ll pay for ammo and range fees.

Take heart on the mags... they come with an internal dimension that you can enjoy vs the AI/etc. And they are not pistol mags- the few extra dollars for a better mag is basically a "rounding error" amount in the end...

Great rifle. I sold my AI AT and AI AX with the intend to step it down a notch so I purchased the TRG-22 20 inch in 308. However, it proves she is far from a step down. Simply put: Trigger is awesome. Bipod is the best I ever used. It feels more natural to me then the stocks on the AI's and for some reason, even though lighter, it shoots softer. Perhaps the brake is that good? Or the stock absorbs some of the recoil, who knows. 2 negatives: The Picatinny rail is junk. Replaced it with a NEAR Manufacturing one. Easy fix. The magazines, after the AI mags, anything is just gonna suck. No other way to put it.

Final note. I bought it in 308, got a great deal and fully intended to rebarrel to 6.5. However, after shooting it I am not so sure anymore. The thing is so damn ridiculously accurate that I just dont want to F%ck with it. (with Federal 175GMM).

Friend owns a TRG. Superb rifle. Btw, Any idea what’s up with Sako’s countdown?

I had one set up with a short 308 barrel and a 260 barrel. Using the TRG as a switch barrel rifle is exactly the same as it is with the AW, TL3, or any other rifle that uses a threaded barrel tenon. KRG sells an excellent action wrench and there are a lot of barrel vise options out there, nothing new or different about doing it. I have wondered how the KRG barrels and nut system is for return to zero, I know a regular shouldered barrel is spot on.

Thanks for responses to my question on this thread!
So I can get shouldered barrels for a trg same as say a tl3 or AI? Or does a smith need to spec/measure my specific action first and spin one up to it. Or is it tight enough tolerances between all trg actions that I can just spin on a shouldered barrel without them ever having my action in hand?

I'm going to have to take issue with the idea AI mags are better. Otherwise, you are right. ;)

Bitching about magazine costs is like going for a steak dinner and complaining about the price of a drink. It’s pointless, and one compliments the other well. I have a trg42 and tikka Tac a1. A larger selling point for me on the tikka was the mags it uses like the trg22. Absolutely love them and the double stack keeps things compact.
