Let me tell you a little fucking story. I have been with the same woman for 30 years last month.
Her parents have always voted Democrat. In the last 30 years they have had 4 homes. Never putting the equity from one home to the next. But instead blowing 50-60k on stupid shit. They have had 13 vehicles. Now at age 76 they still have a mortgage payment and are all but on the edge every month.
They think the government should rescue them from their poor decisions. Oh they had plenty of money slip through their fingers, but CHOSE to make poor decisions with that money. Every poor choice they made took money out of their pocket and put it in someone else's.
My parents on the other hand have both worked there asses off, still live in the same home my father personally built at night after work and on the weekends in 1976.
They have had 4 vehicles in 30 years.
Dad had a career he was into 20 year and in 1988 after mom put herself through college he put himself through college in 3 years while working a 9 hour a day job.
They are retired now, with no house payment, or vehicle payments. They require nothing from the government.
You do understand that 50% of the population pays 0 federal income tax. That means 50% of the population is paying 100% of the Bill's. We are already in a socialist government. And it is failing.
Socialism also squelches innovation. Look at USA where a simple idea can change your life. Compared to Russia (cold war era) and China. In those countries if you come up with a good idea your life changed not one bit, come up with a poor idea and it could cost you your life. There is a reason Russia and China copy all our designs and steal our ideas.

People fear mongering about SS going away have no idea how the monetary system works. The US will never default on SS period end of story. We have the worlds reserve currency the government will continue to issue T bills into perpetuity to fund debt Including SS.
The issue with private pensions is 100% different than SS. Pensions originally invested in long term debt that covered retires, but with the US governments printing problem this has driven down the return on bonds forcing Pensions and other retirement funds into very risky investments. These risky investments will eventually crash leaving the pension system broken. The FED will be forced to bail out the pension systems or risk the US falling into a depression.
The issue we all have is the government has a spending problem , to fund this problem they print T Bills. The world has a massive appetite for T Bills since most governments are running 0% interest rates and in some cases negative rates. So every person and country trying to get returns on investments plows it into the US financial system. Now if any of these countries raise rates above our rates the game is over and The US as we know it goes bye bye.
O and for those who can’t figure it out we already have socialism in the US look no further than Wall Street bail out and banking bail out. The FED intervention in the repo market in September 2019 when our financial system failed again but 90% of Americans had no idea we where close to ruin again till the FED intervened.

I grew up in CA and attended a small conservative school in northern California, UC Berkeley. While there I read a lot for my major and enjoyed research our founding fathers and the writings on Thomas Jefferson and John Locke. Locke wrote about the Laws of Nature - all beings are equal yet independent. Jefferson took this a step further in the Declaration of Independence with, "life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness."
Jefferson wrote, "the constitutions of most of our states assert that all power is inherent in the people; that they may exercise it by themselves, in all cases to which they think themselves competent, or they may act by representatives. It is the right and duty of the people to be at all times armed; that they are entitled to freedom of person; freedom of religion; freedom of property; and freedom of the press."
Once I started making money and paying taxes I took it as a citizen I should be educated on our elected officials, policies and laws, vote as I see fit and be be proficient with weapons - this includes the ones I carry and the ones inherent within me. Seemed simple enough.
I have been fortunate to have traveled the world for work & leisure and lived all over this country when work required it. And each time I visit somewhere I think, "Is this a place I could live?". Answer is always yes, but the better question is, "where do I want to live?" Right here.
There are a lot nice places in this world but few with freedoms we have . And none guaranteed by a document written by not only our forefathers over 200 years, but some of the smartest most savage men to walk the planet.
I think we are doing them a disservice if we do anything other than defend what they envisioned.
When I ever I hear about Dooms Day or Red Dawn scenarios, I have to remind them we live in Texas. And I am fearful for whoever would bring that fight here. I remember during Hurricane Harvey seeing thousands of rednecks in lifted pick up trucks armed to the teeth dragging boats down south to "help out".
