Another reason why is sucks to be a cop- this turd should have jumped from the top of a 6 floor parking structure.
Holy shit, where is this so I know where NOT to work?
I just watched to about 2:15 but I think everyone did everything right. Get the officer away and in a car at that point. He gave multiple commands and had no choice but to fire. Im very impressed with the officers that arrived.
Not sure you and I just watched the same video. This was a fucking TERRIBLE response from every officer on scene except the initial officer who unfortunately did what the asshole suicidal guy forced him to do.
I want to slap the shit out of that female officer who was 2nd on scene and get her to agree never to test for promotion or try to take control of a shooting scene ever again. Errors in order that I’m thinking of (without really analyzing too deep):
1. Moving the shooter off the scene before the guy is even secured in cuffs. WHAT. THE. FUCK.
2. Suicidal guy’s firearm was not yet secured at the time of #1. WHAT. THE. FUCK. CONTINUED.
3. Taking the officers duty weapon from him immediately after he had to shoot someone to potentially save his own life. “Oh, you were just in a deadly force encounter and your body is still shaking from the adrenaline dump? Here, be completely defenseless.” That’ll be good for the psyche. Leave the damn thing in his holster with an officer standing by with him until a supervisor gets him a replacement.
4. Forcing the guy to sit in the back seat of someone’s squad. What the fuck? What was wrong with the front seat? Like he doesn’t already feel terrible enough without putting him in the same fucking locked cage he’s been putting known criminals for his entire career? Again, I’m sure a subconscious message wasn’t sent there.
This is an excellent example of why officers (especially those involved in OIS’) have such a high suicide rate. Never saw ANYONE with stripes making these decisions. Idiots need to let a supervisor get there and handle the aftermath. Geesus H. Christ that was terrible. Only 4 days after earning my Sgt’s stripes I had one of my guys involved in a clearly justified shooting of an armed 16 year old (before folks ask how we knew, we had both both officer and civilian witnesses on scene). This was the first OIS at my department in over 10 years nearly to the day, the prior being before I was hired. Despite my inexperience I would like to believe it was handled better than this shitshow.
