N95 masks?

I bought a 10 pack of 3m ones over the summer to wear while working in my attic, they were $10 shipped
Right now they are probably triple that
or worse from craigslist

Theyre worthless. These things cannot block a virus in nor out. They were not made for that! They filter out much larger particles.

Well viral particles, even when aerosolized, do not exist in isolation, but rather in larger droplets. However, no mask is completely effective and no mask will be as helpful as avoiding contact with people.

An N95 mask isn’t going to do shit against a viral pathogen. N95’s only filter particles down to 300nm. Most viruses are 125 or less.

That's "technically" correct, but doesn't tell the whole story. Viruses are indeed around 100-125nm in diameter, BUT they primarily exist in the air floating in aerosolized droplets, which are larger than 300nm. Additionally, if you're wearing the mask properly, it also prevents you from touching your face/mouth/nose, which is a significant benefit.

Only if it adheres to something larger. If someone sneezes in your personal space then there is still a good chance you Are going to breathe it in. But hey I’m not a virologist so...

Wearing the mask properly is key...and something most don’t know how to do. It’s the same thing when you see people wearing gloves and you know they don’t know how to take them off properly lol.

If you’re sick or think you’re sick, and you decide to ooze around town, then the mask would be more beneficial. But none of that matters because we all have it and the Boomers have been chosen to take point.

If someone sneezes nearby, transmission is by droplets which will still be stopped by the mask. However, in that situation, the mucas membranes of your eyes are what you have to worry about. However, an N95 mask is only rated for eight hours use...
