I have been sorting out this Mauser rifle for an upcoming Yukon sheep hunt that might not take place due to travel ban etc.

Action is commercial Oberndorf intermediate length, small ring. It retains the Mauser two stage trigger but it is very much smoothed up and has optional Mauser internal trigger stop.

Long story. Had rifle for years but First barrel had issues. Second barrel was too long and heavy.

Sent to LRI and they cut it off and turned it down. Now rifle and sling are under 8# and accuracy is acceptable for a big game rifle with a 3x scope.

5 shot groups are .9 MOA at 100 yards.

I have been loading ammo for the rifle.

I got into my last stash of 130 grain Winchester Silvertips, Barnes 120 grain pointed soft points, turned jacket Nosler 130 and 150 partitions. Will post up some pictures. Also finished off my last 20# canister of H4831 from the late 40’s. Still good powder. Hate to see it gone. Nearly 2500 .270 loads per canister.

Digging out all that old stuff brings back a lot of memories. Old hunts, old friends now gone.
This extra time allows a lot of thoughts and activities.

Last of the old 25# kegs and some ‘40’s .277 cal bullets Barnes 120 grain, Nosler 130 Partition and Winchester Silvertip 130’s

That thing is gorgeous. I want to do something similar with a 1903 action. Wow, that's beautiful.

1903 action, though a favorite, would not be my choice for a "looker" gun.

Too much over engineered military stuff.

Think pre WWII Winchester Model 70. Or whichever pre 1964 in which the tang and safety lever appeals to you.

Same thing as an M1903 without the government largess.

Will give you faster lock time and cleaner lines.

Already built the model 70. It's now a 280 AI.

This next one is going to be mantel piece, and having a piece of history with some nice touches (not engraved or anything too fancy) would be very cool.

Speaking from 45 years experience in buying, building and selling custom rifles. GO BUY ONE. DO NOT BUILD. You can literally buy one for 10C on the dollar. Or buy 10X rifle for the same dollar. A rifle that will cost 50K to build today will not sell for 10 K. A rifle that cost 3K to build today cannot be given away. Sad fact of life.

A free action is one of the most expensive gifts you can give a man.
