That's the same reasoning I heard.
How likely is that to actually happen?
Maybe once in the history of mankind.
Still a bunch of bullshit.
Well, my brother is a record holder then. He was renting my house while I was over seas and pushed one of those extendable magnets you use for screws or whatever off the back of the washer and sure enough it landed on the slightly pulled out plug and tripped the breaker. Having said that I have changed zero plugs in my house ?

The NEC doesn't state which way to do it, they leave that to the discretion of local municipalities, it pays to call and find out what is standard In your area. I think the NFPA guidelines for hospitals mandate a top ground pin due to a higher likelihood of an oxygen rich environment and fires. There are valid reasons to both orientations, that's why most new GFCIs have text printed in both directions. It probably doesn't matter, but then you probably dont need airbags in you truck...until you do.

Ok, fused some of the metal on the bar which no doubt involved some sort of spark in area where dust bunnies are likely to form. Unlikely accidents are not the same as impossible. Had that plug been installed upside down there would have been zero issue. But, like I said, I haven't changed anything
