I know the A6 isnt vintage but I think this section of the forum has the most people of culture here to help me out.

Like all things M40 I've at one point hated every version and told myself I'll never build one...well I'm getting a pretty good collection going and loving everything I lied to myself and said I hated.

Here comes in the M40a6. Over the past year and a half I find myself only shooting my clones and decided to sell off anything non clone and invest in my collection. Since the A6 started fielding the NF ATACR from the Mk13 I got pretty interested since I have no use for a 300WM at the ranges I have access to.

Parts and specs are pretty easy to come by with the exception of the damn Larue mount. My hang up on documentation is the markings/stamps for the A6. Since they are carrying over G and E prefix I could take a wild guess and say markings should be the same as the M40a5 on the barrel but its not for certain.

Anyone have information on the proper markings for these new rifles? This thread may morph into a documented build...hopefully better than I did with my XM-3.

Curious, why can't the LT807-34 be used?
Edit: or any of the other Larue mounts?

The look isnt the same nor are the latches. Unless i can source a proper 840 ill likely end up with the 807 or similar. Going to call up larue and see if i can smooth talk someone there.

What markings are you asking about? The markings on the action? The mount?

Mark used the LT-840 for the build but only released a very few with one of his special edition rifle offerings and IIRC, they were in FDE on those rifles. I've seen both the 20MOA and 0MOA versions, but not on an A6. He released the 845 to the public but it has differences in configuration.

ETA - Sorry, didn't see your 840 post before I hit enter.

Yes, that confirmed the last 4 serial marking on the bolt handle and pws-p stamp on the barrel. A hide member was nice enough to send me in field pics to verify those but im still uncertain if the barrel was date mark stamped and if anything on the chassis was stamped. On the A5 and earlier the scope rail was stamped as well as bottom metal.

If i was to assume id say the date stamp on port side of the barrel is done and consistent with the A5 but id like confirmation of that and any chassis stamps.

@FUNCTIONAL - not sure if you seen this thread by TWOMANATTACK but it has some good info on the A6

So the ATACR is now a correct optic to run on a A6?

Platoons are allowed to use the NF from the MK-13 on the 40's whenever they would like. I would say it's safe to say it is correct to build a M40A6 with the ATACR even though it isn't issued with one because most people are running them that way. Platoons were told to use the MK-13 sparingly, as it has a much shorter barrel life, but to put the ATACR's on the 40's to get used to the T3 reticle.

Good move in my opinion. There T3 offers a lot in terms of fast on the fly adjustments but takes a bit of work to get proficient. im sure having more than 12x also is a selling point for observing and confirming.

I agree, I ended up getting the same scope with the T3 cause I liked it so much.

Same... waiting for my Atacr to come in for my A6 build. Theres more use of this on the A6 than there was the premier scopes on A5s and thats considered "correct". The S&B iis an excellent scope but between power and reticle choices there are better options out now.
