Hi,
I bought this rifle about a year ago and broke it down for some spring cleaning. I noticed that the factory bedding of the stock seems to be insufficient/flawed. Should I grind this down and re-bed the stock with pillars? I bought this as it was light weight and I seemed to have okay groups but 1of3 would always be an inconsistent flyer.. approximately 1-1.5 inch. I am contemplating getting rid of this stock completely and getting a different one also.

While maybe not the perfect bedding job, I don’t see that really throwing off your accuracy. Re-assemble, make sure everything is torqued down nice and snug and try it again.

My old man has a hellls canyon mcmillan. The bedding job sucks on it as well. Shoots like a dream though. Factory Hornady eldx and bthp in 6mm creed.

These all have the first inch or so of the barrel bedded. Is that typical of bedding jobs? I don’t bed any stocks I own personally as I think it’s necessary. Just curious.

Mine is the speed in 300 win mag. I have shot magnums for years. I have a custom 300 that is really heavy and don't like lugging it around for days on end so I bought this one. I will have to look at the front of the stock I do not believe it is bedded.

I was referring to the spot in front of the recoil lug like in your photo. The glob of crap that sits there. Have you tried different Ammo? Match grade stuff?

I wish I had the McMillan. Mine is the lighter stock. I will put different ammo through. I am reloading Hornady 208 amax. the barrel is 1-10" twist so should be good to handle the bullet. I have some different bullets in my cabinet 185vld, 180 sst and a couple of match sierra bullets. I just saw the nasty glob of bedding and figured that there is partial coverage and not adequate that may need to be addressed. I am thinking about buying a better stock though.
