Opinions on what press i should buy

Lol, not at all, and I figured that. But I can't decipher entire personalities based off forum responses so just figured I'd give my share of advice in case you were pissed. I've seen people get pretty bent out of shape on here, so just lending the ole olive branch or whatever...
Im not gonna go home and beat my wife cuz a guy said mean stuff on a online board

I habe the hornady lock n load single stage and ive done over 25000 rounds on it abd its time to move on. Ive got someone who is willing to buy the press and some other stuff that i dont need to get him loading rounds and hes gonna give me 200 bucks for everything. So ive been looking at the redding big boss 2. I like that the primers drop down inside the ram. Its a big press so i wont need anything bigger unless i wanna load 50 cal. But here lies the problem, the biggest cartridge i load for is 308win. I also load 223 rem, 9x19 45 auto and will eventually load 357. So i dont need a press this big but fuck it it will only cost me like 50 bucks after tax and shipping. Any body on here load 308win on a big boss 2 and if they do does it work good for you or is the press to big for that size cartridge? An
d no i dont want rcbs garbage

T 7's are nice, but I'll stick with my Forster Co-ax. never faild to produce top notch results.

To get back to the point of the OP--

I use an BB2 for 308 and 6.5CM - it works great and produces highly concentric and accurate loads. I like the primer handling and offset - the main reasons I chose this press. In answer to your question, it is not "too big". IMHO, Dillons are good for high productivity (I own a 550) but I would not use one for precision reloads.

Careful bro saying what u just said about dillon will get u on the shit list around here

i said that so the other dillon fags see it and get bent

We don't get bent, I just loaded another 50 rounds of match ammo with .001 run-out in the time it took to type this message haha.... Redding presses are great

You just need to know how to set the press up to get the results you want....

It doesn't... I am replying to anyone who is lurking or who is new so they understand there is a ton of misinformation on what a progressive press can and can't do. 0 f's given on what you choose to do homie...in the meantime I just loaded another 100 rounds haha

Sure bro can u gaurentee those powder charges are + or - a tenth a grain. I can cuz i weigh each one. Right now my load for my 30 has a es of 8 and sd 4.4

I do...cuz they are weighed and thrown with an autotrickler v3 on an fxi120

So your post is misleading. Your using that progressive press like a single stage. All i see is a powder funnel and a seater die. So if i had the same auto trickler i can do it as fast as u

False....I deprime, size and trim in one pass. I can do 500 6.5 cm cases in about 15 min.

Toss them in the tumbler to clean for an hour. While they are cleaning I load my primer tubes.

Pour cleaned brass back into hopper and I will load all 500 cases with bullets, primers and powder in about 1 hour and 15 minutes if I'm just chilling....so you are 2.5 hours to do 500 rounds of match ammo prep through loading...nothing single stage about it and no way you could do it as fast as a progressive lol

you cheap ass I don’t see a Mr. bullet feeder on that. I use mine with a Prometheus GenII. Yes I am one of those Dillon fags

I'm sorry it wasn't in the shot.....I was switching calibers 😁

Out of curiosity what kind of shooting do you do? Some casual prone? PRS? F-class? and how big are your groups? What is your SD and ES?

Are you happy with those numbers?

Yes i am but theres always room for improvement, why u wouldnt be happy with them
Nah. It is just that it doesnt seem that you NEED a new press. You have good groups and numbers that you are happy with?
You just want a new press?

The hornady press started to show its age had alot of slop and i paid 230 for the kit and i sold everything with 3lbs of wc844 to a friend and also did a "class" on how to reload for 3 hours for 200 so im not out much. Funny storie i bought the big boss 2 from midway usa and when the box came it was huge and weighed a ton. I thought that was odd. Well when i opened the box there was 2 big boss presses inside. Check out the pictures

Redding is good stuff but I have a buddy who has a big boss that now sits idle in deference to his co-ax. He deprimes on the Redding and that’s about it. The Dillon I will say is not overpriced. I have two. The reason I have two is that my first was given to me by and uncle. He bought it second hand. I’ve no idea how old it is. I ran it for pistol loads. When the powder measure finally broke I called Dillon to purchase a replacement. They sent me one at no charge, even though I was at least the third owner, which I disclosed to them. That is why they are worth the money and why I would recommend them. It sat in a humid closet at my parents house while I was in grad school and the ram rusted. I paid I think $95 dollars for Dillon to rebuild it, which covered the return shipping also, and the only thing I got back that was original was the frame and handle. Everything else was brand new. Buy once, cry once. You may very well get the same service from Redding but I can’t speak from personal experience.

As to the inferiority of the Dillon for precision work, you are speculating. That’s not meant to be offensive. There no head to head data on this superiority of which you speak. I have a Forster as well BTW and use it for my “precision” stuff just because I like it and it’s how I learned reloading for rifle. No other reason. If you’re a better shooter than a guy like say, David Tubb, who isn’t limited by using a Dillon, then I stand corrected. However, you’re probably limited by time and financial resources like the rest of us mortals, even if your talent is sufficient. Do you neck turn, do you sort your pills for weight and bearing surface, do you uniform your primer pockets, how often do you anneal? How small a group can you shoot. Are you in the 0’s? Unless you are shooting a heavy bench gun off a $1k rest and are a GOOD player of that game, you will NEVER see the consistent difference in your results from the factors you’re speculating over.

Here’s my best group from a 6 Creedmoor I built my wife. About .08” MOA. I always whip this one out. It was shot off a bipod and rear bag from a bench with factory Hornady 108 ELD match. The gun is an incredibly easy sub quarter minute shooter, all day. It’s like they just fall into a ragged hole. Do you suppose that ammo is loaded on a single stage press?

You have gotten some good advice and of course it’s your money, but a wise man doesn’t disregard good council. My advice is always be listening, always be learning. People here share their experience because they want to help you.

You should call them and tell them.

So...I currently have the T7 but am looking for ways to speed up process and not lose accuracy. For you guys using Dillon, what does your process look like? I assume you clean and anneal all your brass before it gets loaded into the Dillon case feeder for sizing, charging, and seating?

Anneal fired brass

Put brass in gallon Ziploc bag and spray down with alcohol lanolin lube mix

Dump brass into hopper

Install Prep tool head...size/deprime, trim, expander mandrel

Toss brass into corn cob tumbler

Toss brass back into hopper

Install Load tool head...prime, powder, seat bullet

Done

What kind of SD and ES would you expect to be to 1100.possible? I have the Autotrickler and would set up similar to yours. Im shooting 6 CM in PRS typically out to 1100 yds so needs to be good but not F Class.

There are things we do to the press to reduce run-out ie clamp the toolheads and float dies.

My es is usually under 20 sd is always under 9.

7 or 8 hits at 600...Alas I pulled one high 11 oclock sigh.....

Dammit...and I thought I finally had enough toys after the AMP. Smh...

So, do I need special dies or will my Mighty Armory FL and Redding Comp Seater work? So if a guy were to upgrade from a T7, what would he need to get similar numbers?

Several threads on it already bud 😁

Yah...I was lazy. Thanks for the links.

I reload on 550, and I do something similar to Husky.

Initial Quick cleaning(and anneal if applicable)
Dump in a big tupperware and lube with alcohol/lanolin mix
Armanov clamped tool head/floated dies (prep) - decap, size, expander mandrel
Quick Tumble in corn cob media
Chamfer mouth and/or ream primer pockets (if applicable)
Armanov clamped tool head/floated dies - prime, expander mandrel, seat bullet, light Lee crimp (if applicable)

I switched to working with XBR 8208 on my AR and found a pretty good node for it, so I am planning on trying to load all in one step. I have no doubt the Dillon powder measure can give +/- 0.01, we'll see if the floating toolheads will help alleviate seating issues when resizing on the same stroke.

I love loading precision on the 550, however the main reason I have the 550 is I got it for super cheap from a neighbor. My next press will definitely be a 750.

OP better call David Tubb and tell him you cant load precision ammo on a Dillon.

I've never heard of a press being to big. A Dillon 750 is a taller 650 with a redesigned primer feed. It'll still do .25 ACP if you have dies. The Big Boss 2 is a good press.
Apparently you know nothing about the Dillon Presses. There is NO SIMILARITY whatsoever between a 750 and a 650 press. They are entirely different and work very differently. There are also no common mechanical parts between them.

WOAH there muchachos... don't go screaming absolutes on us

You sure you're not thinking about the 650 vs the 1050? Cause the 650 and 750 are pretty similar... and while the 650 cannot be updated to the 750, they do share:
The same basic frame
The same 5 position design (although the shellplate housing is rearranged due to the priming system change)
The same shell plates
The same tool heads
The same case feeder system
The same case feeder parts/adaptors/etc
The same machine upgrade parts/packages/etc.

I have a 650 and have looked at the 750, Gustav7 described them already.

Hey everyone...pretty sure the wonderful OP got banned.

Saw he derailed someone else's PX post trying to find stuff without his 100 posts.
Im still new to this forum. I was trying to buy not sell when i posted in someones elses thread. Didnt really think that was a big deal because im not selling but it was so 2 week ban. I keep getting notifications that your replying to this thread and i wanted to keep argueing with you on how dillion presses are garbage that cant make precision ammo, there good for high volume "plinking" ammo but thats about it bro. Got the big boss 2, its fucking great

If anybody can explain please do. I was reading the PX rules, and im not sure what to make of it. I know i can sell shit and me hijacking that thread was against rules, but can i even reply to somebodys PX thread to buy something from them. Just buy can i do that, i dont wanted to get banned again

You can reply to buy.

Anything that would normally require you to post (and without proper access necessitates you to work around posting) is what gets you caught up.

Thanks for replying. Yes i did a work around to say hey i wanna buy a bipod too. I figured that wasnt a huge deal but it was, lesson learned so when i re-read the rules i wasnt sure if i could even buy so awesome. Im addicted to searching the PX for deals and trying to snatch em up so when i got that 2 week ban, boy i was pissed. I wanted to hunt for deals bro

heyyyyyy welcome back man. Ya I get what you were trying to do, lesson learned. They do have the upgrade thing if you wanna post ASAP without the hundred posts.

LOL, ya the thread kept going without you as different people still had some input. It’s all good, I doubt we’ll ever agree, but then again, we don’t have to. Hope the Big Boss 2 serves you well.
