Night Vision NV and thermal kills...

That sounds amazing. I don’t think I’ve ever met a farmer who hates deer. The deer quality is fairly low here, other than on high fenced ranches, but most people with land want to charge hunters a lot more than the deer are worth.

Most Americans are fairly spoiled by easy access to meat. I have a close friend who grew up in Vietnam who will pay me for whole young wild hogs that I shoot if I let him. I help him keep his freezers full, nobody else wants to get their hands dirty.
Lol. You need to get out more. To the states where deer are varmints and the .gov shoots thousands of them each year because they are so over populated

You can see the 1000s of acres of crops eaten to the ground to

Around here not as many people hunt as they use to. Those who do most often are “big buck” hunters, and I don’t believe anyone shoots does. I see 12-15+ does for every buck I see at night with thermal. I’ve been sitting on hill tops watching over fields or pasture and see groups of 20+ does come moving through together. When they get like that, they can ruin as much crop as pigs. It is just they will come through, eat and go bed where as pigs eat and eat and eat and tear the ground up. I had to go to the Wateree SC power plant in the middle of the night for a service call and took my thermal. Just on the entrance road, which isn’t very far, and maybe 100 yards off either side of that road into the woods I saw over 70 deer. I quit counting at 70. It was just unreal.

Just before Thanksgiving last year. Was helping a buddy with a fundraiser bird hunt and he told me a big boar was tearing up his feeders and fields - this pic is from the recovery the next morning - that's why there is hunter orange in the pic.

Shot this boar about 30 mins after sunset. L3 PVS-14 over non dominant eye to watch the field, T70 Thermal Clip on in front of Vortex Razor HD 1-6 with IMI MK262 loads from my Mini Recce (13.7" Rainer Ultra Match bbl) . Shot 5 times in boiler room at 75 yds (1 standing still, 4 running) made it about 30 yds crashed on neighbors side of the fence. Pulled him out with the tractor after dragging 25 yds through thick brush with 2 buddies - Just under 400 lbs. Didn't go get him that evening because there was Moose Backstrap filets and Jalapeno - Cream Cheese Stuffed Mallard breasts waiting to be eaten back at the cabin.

#10 and #11 to come off of the property where my buddy had a beagle killed and another one injured.

I got in a couple AI competition triggers from Eurooptic today and had just installed one before going out. They are a pretty damn nice trigger. Both of these were shot pretty close, one about 125 and the second one tried to circle me and wind me, but I popped him in a trot at ~175.

This guy has been teasing me for the last 2 hours. He would walk out into one of my clearings and nibble for a minute, then go back into the trees for 15-20. He finally stayed out long enough for me to walk closer for a shot. With all the rain we’re getting the mosquitos are terrible right now. I’m considering calling it quits so I can go home and simmer this head tonight.

Test video post from the one shot last night. Hopefully this works.
Edit: Apparently I pissed off the folks at Imgur by uploading this as a public post. Let’s try a hidden post.

I’ll have to count skulls at my 2 piles of death, but I know this is at least #12 of the beagle killers. May be #13. All off the same clear cut and swamp. Got it earlier, 224 yards 6mmCM 95gr LR TSX. I am starting to notice a huge decrease in any howling and tracks there.

The side shot gopro I ordered will be here tomorrow and I hope I can get an adaptor arm made to mount it direct to my Spuhr scope mount while there is still a fullish moon. Wished I had it working tonight as it would have been a good kill shot video.

I feel positive about how I spent my Sunday night. I made a hefty donation to the Black Vulture Conservation Society.

We have a Beagle. She is not a working dog, just here to be a member of the family. And a couple of “puppycats”....abandoned kittens raised by our dog who follow her around like her own. We live out in the country and have plenty of coyotes and foxes in the hood. I get it, my John Rambo would come out in full force too had this happened to ours. Hope you get them all.

I got the side shot hero7 mounted to my S&B 1-8 dual CC. I am still working up a mount to mount it direct to a Spuhr mount, so the LR shooting video will have to wait a bit. I’ve got it on a 22lr now for testing/playing around. I’ll shoot some more video tonight to see how it does with the clip on.

Speaking of black vultures...I hate the black vultures. Turkey vultures are okay, but the black ones will actually go after brand new calves on the ground. They'll peck out their eyes (normal eating habits) and the calves will end up dying.

I thought it a load of BS until I saw it for myself one day. Had a cow going mad, trying to keep 7 or 8 of them off of her calf...it looked like a damn scene right out of a National Geographic documentary. Called my wife and had her bring out my varmint rifle as I engaged them (unsuccessfully of course...its illegal to kill them) with an old SKS that I used to take everywhere on my 4-wheeler.

Wife (a Veterinarian) didn't believe me until six months later when it happened again near our house.

It's like a $15K fine for shooting them because they're protected for some stupid reason, so I NEVER, EVER, EVER practice my longer range hunting skills with them in the background...regardless if they try to kill my calves or not.

2 farms I hunt on have had this issue Multiple times.

That’s crazy, I had no idea. Hopefully the carcasses I leave in the woods keeps them fed well enough to leave the calves alone. I don’t own cattle, but the owner of the land I hunt on leases the grazing rights.

As you well know, carcasses bring the scavengers. When the food is gone they either move on or start on other stuff.

I've killed at least 40 coyotes on just one 500 acre patch in the past 18 months. I bring it on myself. I've left almost 50 hogs, and countless coons, skunks, and armadillos on the same ground during that stretch. Unfortunately for me, sometimes these coyotes get a little too brave with my calves...and so on goes the cycle.

nvm.

Thanks for the video @Hootiewho

To be honest, I am not quite sure. I uploaded it from my laptop and had the camera on 2.7k. I am pleased with how well it looks, and it is a hell of a lot more field friendly of a camera setup vs the older Torrey Pines unit I once had.

Some nights you're lucky, some you aren't. I was lucky last night and had a bunch of unfamiliar hogs keep stopping to see what the noise was.

Unlike some other guys who make claims like they "rarely miss", I'll admit that I do frequently...especially at those darn piglets when they get to running. However I didn't last night...which was luck again.

The trifecta of luck though was that these hogs walked out just as I walked up to my scouting position...and then even after I was spotted by a boar I was able to set up without him sounding an alarm.

I definitely used up my luck for a while this morning.

This also definitely helps after the fiasco I've had with my new Thermion XP50 so far.

Nice shooting, that is quite a haul!
Hopefully everything with the Thermion is resolved quickly. If I remember correctly, their warranty repairs are done not too far over your Southern border. At least she won’t have to go too far to get fixed.

Shot this guy at about 4:30 this morning. I hit him a little farther back than I wanted to, which usually results in a lost hog. Most of the hogs I don’t drop on the spot I lose in the brush, so I always go for the neck. I was half asleep, I rushed the shot and hit lungs. I got lucky this time.

Them phalanges must not be worried about rattlers or poison ivy. LOL

Haha! Based on where this place is (Hondo, Tx) you would think I would be covered up with rattlers. I’ve never seen one in 6 years, and my 7 year old and I have spent a lot of time looking. I still poke the ground with my shooting sticks when I walk in the dark just in case, but cactus gets me more than anything. Where I live I encounter rattlers all the time.

Thermal Jesus strikes again! Good job!

I love the Pulsars. They don’t have anywhere near the image quality of the higher end scopes, but for knocking over hogs and occasional coyotes, they do exactly what I need. I can honestly say my Pulsars have never caused me to miss or lose an animal.

Great shooting.
We'll see how your luck is after the Thermion gets back to you.
Pain in the ass level surely has been reached, but your far from fiasco level.
You want fiasco level, you need to buy another brand that is the acronym for Another Technological Nightmare.

Do you have any 640 res pulsar scopes ?
I agree with your view about the pulsar image quality compared to other thermal scopes, but the 640 res scopes give them a run for their money now, especially with the image boost feature.
I'm a 640 res snob now.
I spot with a 384 res monocular and shoot with a 640 res thermion.
I am amazed at the image difference and am saving my pennies to buy a 640 res monocular now.

I have both a Trail XQ50 and a Trail XP50. I’ve been using the XQ for the last month or so on a recently built AR10. The XP will be relocated once a 338 can for another AR10 is approved, then I’ll be back to it. With the two set the same (magnification, contrast, etc.) the image quality looks really similar to me. It may be something about how I have mine setup, but past 60-70 yards hogs look like a glowing silhouette with both. I can see a lot of detail closer in. Because of the trees and brush I hunt around I end up really close to hogs fairly often, and the lower magnification on the 640 scope is really useful, that’s the big benefit for me. To bring us back on subject, here’s a kill shot from earlier this year where a small boar I called in came within 25 yards or so (XP50, pre image boost update). The XQ50 is not ideal for situations like this.

Hahahaha no kidding. So far, Sellmark took an extra work day to respond to my RA (auto response saying 48 hours)...and then only wanted proof of purchase...now it's been another 24 hours since I've sent that and I've heard zip. I'll never regurgitate the part about Pulsar's great CS again in other threads, that's for sure.

However, they are far from getting a big fat "F". But I started this Monday, and I'm still holding onto a brand new $5K paperweight in my bedroom (today is Friday for future reference from other readers).

Enough. I'll give them a chance.

A couple of buddies did this the night before last. I was supposed to join them, but had to be responsible instead. They got 52. We’ve hunted the past 3 Friday nights, and we’re at 94 give or take one or two for the 3 nights. My buddy who has gone out a couple times during the week is at 191 or 192 since May 24th.
